New Homeless Campground May Soon Be Evicted

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―A local attorney opened up his private property for homeless campers to have a place to stay, but authorities are already warning they will have to shut it down.

Attorney Mark Merin is leasing his property on 13th Street and C Street in Sacramento to about three dozen homeless men and women for one dollar a year, which is meant to give them the legal rights of lessees and property renters.

"It's a matter of human dignity, and it's life and death," said Greg Bunker, executive director of Francis House in Sacramento.

According to Sacramento police, it isn't legal to live in a tent anywhere in the city for longer than 24 hours. The department wouldn't say when, but did say that they would soon enforce the city ordinance and kick the homeless persons out of the property.

The lot is located in a mostly industrial area, with only one home backing up to the property, but the city has received complaints about the campers from nearby residents.

6. I'm implying the "nearby residents" are the industrial sites.
and it sounds better PR-wise to pretend its homeowners rather than business owners who want to uproot the homeless.

I should have had my half-sarcastic smiley going.

4. Sac declared war on the homeless a few years ago, and it just gets worse every day.
Arnie has done more harm to this state and the city of Sacramento than we may ever know.

7. Arnie is doing his best to create MORE homeless, so its going to be a catch-22 real soon.
more homeless to evict than people to complain about them.

8. Some of those complainers may find themselves in those tents soon
And the industries around them are going to run out of customers too. Oh Well, there'll be more space for the new homeless to inhabit once those industries go belly up.

9. What does the state governer have to do with a cities laws?
I'm not fan of the job Arni has done, but these are laws being enforced by a Democratic leadership. If we just keep pointing our fingers at the Republican boogy man when Democrats are doing wrong, then how is anything supposed to get fixed?

10. Are you really asking me that question with all of Arnies budget cuts to social programs?
Sacramento is the capitol of Ca, what Arnie does to the state, he does to the city.
