I'm depressed today...something about the national tone reminds me of those horrible years when the
repubs controlled everything...when idiocy and torture were commonplace...when the media lied about everything and used propaganda tapes to promote the war...
I've been patient...when the bankruptcy bill was not supported i knew millions more would lose their homes..obamas loan modification has actually helped fewer than 9% of those in trouble...afghanistan rages on...nut cases continue to be given a forum on national news channels...its now ok to carry guns to political protests...torture and corruption and war profiteering go unchecked...blackwater is still in the loop with govt contracts...between the cia, blackwater and the military industrial complex, we are barely recognizable as the country i thought or hoped we were....wall street, geithner, goldman sachs....tom delay is a friggin criminal yet he's on tweetys show all the time...why?...where is dick cheney?..why is he not in jail?..how can anyone think that bachman and palin are not over the top lunatics?

i had hoped for accountability...i just dont see it..the people who are fighting so hard against this administration should be lawyering up for past deeds rather than continuing down the same path. and given a national forum..one big happy bullshit club while the middle class vanishes and illogical arguments are treated respectfully...im sick of it...

5. My partner who suffers from depression used to say that until he got help
Edited on Sun Aug-23-09 11:07 AM by Politicub
It's a self defeating mood which doesn't get you anywhere. It causes malaise and inaction.

Now that he is getting help for his depression, he can function far better from day to day and has a more positive outlook on things. In fact, I haven't heard him say same shit different day for months.

And this is another reason why I support mental health coverage as part of whatever health care reform gets passed. Sometimes it can be more debilitating than a physical illness.

what you need to do is back off from politics completely for as long as it takes to get back to being OK. Not OK in the sense that everything looks all rosy and wonderful. I mean OK in the sense that you feel like continuing the righteous fight. Because without that they will always win.

You just need to fall back and regroup. They'll be here when you get back.

11. You are being realistic. They still do control everything...
because of their anger and hatred and lies and because the media gives them all the attention.

The right wing still controls the dialogue. You may be depressed about it, but you are essentially right.

12. You need to accept that conflict is the organizing principle of American society
The legal system is based on stylized trial by combat.

The political system is based on conflict between parties.

The economic system is based on greed.

Worker - management relations are based on strikes versus exploitation.

The country was founded on taking the land from Native Americans, usually by force or deceit.

The South was founded on slavery.

The Midwest and the Southwest were conquered during wars.

I could go on.

Every one of them is true. Still there's hope if humans really do have the capacity to learn from their mistakes. Mostly learning the resultant consequences of all actions, whether good or bad.

When there is not conflict it seems strange.

21. It's America's tortured and not so rosy future that is of more concern
There is no reason to believe that the level of conflict in America will diminish.

In fact, it is more likely to increase as conditions domestically and abroad continue to deteriorate.

25. Conflict? Third World conflict in the U.S.? Conflict between one piece of bread & two hungry mouths?
Between those who sit by the sidelines, thinking their guns will help them when "the shit hits the fan"?

The conflict of complacency?

The conflict of "1984"?

27. There is great conflict in Facism
Fascists believe that nations and/or races are in perpetual conflict whereby only the strong can survive by being healthy, vital, and by asserting themselves in conflict against the weak.

"Conflict is in fact the basic law of life in all social organisms, as it is of all biological ones; societies are formed, gain strength, and move forwards through conflict; the healthiest and most vital of them assert themselves against the weakest and less well adapted through conflict; the natural evolution of nations and races takes place through conflict." Alfredo Rocco, Italian Fascist theorist and government minister.

22. There is no conflict when the government is run by private global offshored outsourced companies
There is no conflict when the government -- and its wars -- are run by private global offshored outsourced companies.

When the commonwealth has been hijacked to support and perpetuate their private wealth stream and not "support the common welfare" of the nation.

When people paying attention have watched this bullshit come at them for decades.

It's over.

Time for new hobbies.

15. I understand completely, but I refuse to give up hope for the future
I went "on the wagon" today, boycotting sites (except for DU) that I normally enjoy schmoozing on. I just can't stand another day of freepers, sphincters, birthers and even Dems who seem to miss the point by miles. The tone of the health care reform debate in this country right now is almost completely insane, and I have the urge to throttle Anderson Cooper & most of the other buffoons at "Certainly Not News".

The entire litter of Blue Dogs makes me want to scream. Maybe it's the August humidity.

However - I refuse to give up hope for the future. I just need a breather, and maybe that's all you need as well. In any case, if everything is going to hell in a handbasket, I'd like to be one of the few sane people manning the fire extinguishers:) Keep the faith.
