10. After 9/11 they were supposed to put systems in place in case of
an outbreak of mysterious disease in the animal population.

They probably only considered infectious diseases, and it never occurred to them to be able to quickly get to the root of an animal FEED contamination. This could just as easily have been contaminated cattle or pig or chicken feed, or all three simultaneously, designed to wipe out the US food supply.

BushCo proves once again they are TOTAL MORANS. Who's the "Brownie"- equivalent in charge of FDA??

He's a dog lover and that tells the story.

That dog is the last bit of his wife that he has to hold on to.

But he's gotten up to speed, and is very good on this. I feel bad for him about his wife, too, but he is quite sincere in his love and concern for the dog, and he's nobody's fool... He's calling out the pet food industry and the FDA on this...:D

33. When I lost my beloved dog last year, the vet recommended a pet bereavement website to me.
So I told her about DU, that this was my home, and I could always post about my dog here and that liberals love animals. Her reply to me was that I was right, that Republicans love money and corporations, and this was not someone that I knew, just a dedicated vet at the Animal Emergency Clinic, who cared very well for my dog. My regular vet is a liberal, as well. I think that this is your answer.:-(

32. Well, we don't need anybody else associated with this government...
But I thought that Robert Byrd was quite good. This guy was not. And I'm not at all thrilled with the testimony of this Duane person, despite his touching speech about his pets. This hearing is not impressing me, since the excuses that all these people are making is not solving the problem, and there definitely is one. I'm still cooking for my two little dogs and watching the kitty like a hawk...:-(

I just didn't like the way he was evaiding the questions, and he certainly fit the Shrub pattern. Oh well, I guess Clinton gets the black mark for this one!

He said that they need to reply in a "timely fashion" to any problems, and they did not. He's not putting up with these sorry excuses. And that's what they're giving the committee...:-(

42. I sure did. They had nothing but excuses. Durbin was very good, as was Byrd.
I don't know the name of the person who you asked about, but I remember who you mean. It was so obvious that the others neither knew what went wrong, nor particularly cared, and were just trying to avoid responsibility... ;(

Here's a list of who appeared. Sundlof and Ekedahl were hopeless... :-(

38. I hope the investigation by Sen. Durbin continues...
I feel, he was the only one on top of this issue..

I guess we have to keep an eye on his website to check on any further announcements -

sadly he did not go into the "meat by-product" issue...

he also did not go into the issue that Cornell Univ. is pinpointing the second contaminant - which may trigger another wave of issues..

We should all thank Dick Durbin and encourage him to

44. Byrd was also good on this, though he was a little slow,
but I think he can be forgiven, considering his age. He's still out there, fighting for us. I know his background, but I still admire the man, since he is one of the few who continues to speak out and he could have retired a long time ago, but he is dedicated to his job.. There aren't many who feel like this, in this day and age... :D

I think that Durbin is going to pursue this. It's far from over. This has been a national outrage and I don't think he'll let this rest. Thanks for the advice. I'll check on his website, and C-Span, for further information. I just got done cooking, yet again, for my dogs. Their foods were on no recall lists, and doesn't contain wheat gluten, was recommended by their vet, but I just feel better doing this until this is resolved. :-(

in anything you feed your pet. I had no idea the pet food industry played so fast and loose with the well being of our animals.

I feed my guys food that my vet has recommended, but I'm still worried. They keep coming up with more recalls. I cooked more food, yesterday, for my dogs, and will probably continue doing this until this is resolved. :-(
