Mozilla 3.5.2 Problem

Has anyone using Mozilla 3.5.2 noticed that it tends to freeze up when you click on certian links...Mine does when I click on Yahoo mail inbox and I end up shutting down the box to get it to unfreeze.

Otherwise it's ok.

Have since switched to Google Chrome and am much happier.

Google has made absolutely no effort to hide this since they announced it as a development project. It is clearly stated in the license agreement.

If I find I have issues with it, I'll have to reconsider using Chrome, go to Safari or Opera or something. I just know I'm not going back to Firefox. It gave me nothing but headaches.

i use no frills chrome

attention to detect a pattern as when it happens.

It seems to lock up for a looong time,
maybe even minutes,
no indication of heavy cpu usage in task manager,
task manager says application "Not responding",
but then McAfee puts up a message that it's finished installing an update,
and Firefox comes back to life.
Something is getting locked during the McAfee update.

Its a script error, and it seems to only effect Mozilla/Firefox.

My friends made many good suggestions, and all I was able to do was mess it up MORE.

But then, I've only been using it for about a week. I had to build a new 'puter after a massive electrical storm fried the old. It was off, but I should have unplugged the surge protector.

I never check my yahoo inbox; it's been years since I used yahoo mail. Maybe I'm just not seeing sites that cause problems.

For the record:

I just logged into Yahoo and checked my mail. I had no trouble getting in, and out of my mailbox. There's about 20 old emails in there from 2005/6.

I also navigated msnbc without a problem. :shrug:

I haven't used Mozilla since I discovered Camino.

Never had a problem with Firefox before this latest update, but now, my computer screen will suddenly go blank. I can't get it to come back on without manually shutting down my computer and then restarting it, which I hate having to do.

it's horrible until you get rid of the addon that's causing the problem. I was so frustrated I uninstalled 3.5.2 but then decided to try again.

There are certain addons that are the kiss of death with 3.5.2 (at least on my computer):

Microsoft .NET Framwork Assistant
Java Quickstarter
Mcafee Side Advisor
RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin
ShareVideo (Vodpod)

Addons that are "iffy" with 3.5.2:
Shareaholic
SeekService

The addons I am able to use:
Adblock Plus
English Dictionary

For those using 3.5.2 who don't like the tear away tab to a new window there is an addon to stop that function. It's called bug489729. You can find it

I think you will find once you get rid of any of those you will have a quick, responsive browser. I love it now that I got rid of those addons. It's fast!

I just disabled the RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin.

Maybe that will help.

I just went to my DU Inbox, which had been freezing up whenever I clicked on anything in there, and it worked just fine.

Maybe this is premature, but I think your suggestions fixed it for me, and for that, you have my undying gratitude.

We are all so tethered to these machines, it's like having a serious physical sickness when the machine misbehaves.

But, just because I'm curious - how would I uninstall 3.5.2 and get back to the prior iteration, if that should prove necessary?

I know - I'm pushy, and taking advantage of your good nature and expertise.

If you decide to uninstall Firefox and want to go to an older version, go here: http://www.oldapps.com/firefox.php?old_firefox=56

Download the version of Firefox you want to revert to. I found both 3.0.8 and 3.0.12 both to be pretty stable. Do not install yet.

Go to your Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, and then remove Firefox 3.5.2. Once it's been removed you can then install the old version you downloaded.

(I didn't mean to over explain, I just don't assume people automatically know where to go to uninstall a program.)

This is excellent, and you can never "over-explain" to a computer idiot such as I. I am grateful for any step-by-step instruction.

uninstall Firefox 3.5.2 you pick the option to keep the personal information. A window will pop up when you click on uninstall and guide you through it. (It's under Mozilla Firefox in your programs list)

Your work here is done, and, rest assured, you have my undying gratitude.

Even though Firefox seems to be working quite wonderfully now, it's nice to have that information, should I need it.

When I was having trouble with Firefox it was driving me crazy. I hate I.E. and I didn't care for Chrome at all.

If you continue to have some freezing, let me know. There's one more trick we can use.

Weird problem though.

some pages periodically freeze, just for a few seconds.

MY DU Inbox does it.

Overall, no other issues.

balking at certain types of scripts and just plain freezing up with far too much frequency.

i'm ready to make IE my default, though i don't want to.

but I like it. The beta did a lot of what people here are saying, but not the final version. Maybe try downloading and re-installing and make sure you are getting the correct (non-beta) version.

I noticed periodic freezing since I upgraded to 3.5.2. I did a little investigation and found a thread (I believe on a Firefox forum site) to go to about:config and change the browser.sessionstore.interval to 300000. That did the trick for me. it may not work for you but it won't hurt to try it.

It was a terrible release on Firefox's part and they are losing users because of it.

Only reason I reverted back after upgrading to 3.5.x for a short time was because my Norton Anti-virus integration doesn't work yet with the new version, but now it sounds like I have more reason to stick with this version-line until they work the kinks out.

It's basically bug free.
