McCain Defends Palin's 'Death Panel' Remark
Senator: Meaning Of Former Running Mate's Comment Has Merit

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Sen. John McCain defended his former presidential running mate Sunday, saying the meaning of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's comments on death panels in the health care overhaul bill have merit.

The Arizona senator appeared on ABC News' "This Week" and was asked by the show's host, George Stephanopoulos, if the claim made about death panels encouraging euthanasia in the health care bill was not an "extraordinary lie," as noted by President Barack Obama.

Stephanopoulos insisted that no such provision existed in the bill, while Sen. McCain countered by saying that there was indeed "ambiguous" language on end-of-life issues in the bill that could lead to such a scenarios.
