Rupert Murdoch Wants Other Papers to Collude With WSJ

Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., which owns the Wall Street Journal, has reached out to other newspapers, such as the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post and Hearst Corp. Since Murdoch’s decision to charge users to access content on the Wall Street Journal’s web site, he has apparently realized that it will only work if the other big players make the same decision. So, he wants to create a consortium that would charge for online news and also sue anyone that uses content for more than fair use. This, essentially, amounts to price fixing and publishers want antitrust laws changed so they can survive.

1. if and when newspapers do this..it WILL be their death knell
there are too many independent papers...and since the national papers do no more than the independents well...screw them...they no longer do investigative pieces..they no longer have foreign offices...same as independents...good riddance to bad pulp...I say.
