On this day four years ago sweet Sirius died in my arms.
What a great dog. As old DUers all know, I once lived eight blocks from Dick Cheney (in his Halliburton CEO days in Dallas), and I trained sweet Sirius to poop in Cheney's front yard on Euclid St. in Highland Park.

In those dark days in 2000 between the November election and the December 12 Supreme Court sanctioned coup, the Secret Service moved in to protect Cheney. Then I'd give Sirius extra liver treats when he pooped in Cheney's yard in front of the glowering SS men. I always pick up after my dogs, but not there! Oh the joy! Oh how I miss sweet Sirius.

3. The SS can be fun to play with really
the dog did well though, RIP Sirius... the poop you left is nothing compared to what Chenney has left on the nation. OIF, it STINKS.

10. Oh, you remember well indeed!
Six months of chemo and surgery. We thought he was out of the woods. Thanks for remembering.

6. My dear DemoTex...
Ah, he was a great dog indeed...

Sweet Sirius...he will live in your heart and in your memory forever...

Allow me to offer this poem:

I explained to St.Peter,
I'd rather stay here,
Outside the pearly gate.
I won't be a nuisance,
I won't even bark,
I'll be very patient and wait.
I'll be here, chewing on a celestial bone,
No matter how long you may be.
I'd miss you so much,
if I went in alone,
It wouldn't be heaven for me.

9. I know how the bittersweet memories feel.
Just last week, I held a beloved pet in my arms while the vet gave her that final injection. So many memories of her make me smile, but losing her to a terminal illness is still too painful.

I hope your happy memories of Sirius stay fresh and the pain of loss fades with time.

11. One has to kick and recommend the memory of a wonderful dog who pooped in Darth Cheney's yard!

14. Indeed! Maybe August 25 should be a DU-celebrated holiday.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of Heaven is a place called The Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes over the Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill or old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling to each other in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart!

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together……..

In Memory of our Loved Ones
