Will they do that?

Only president-elects, sitting presidents, and past presidents automaticaly qualify for state funerals. Congress has the power to grant them to others they deem worthy.

2. His family would not want it anyway.
His funeral will be bigger than his sister's, but no Reagasm..

5. I concur. They should. The man did much more than what we've come to expect from senators.
The respect for him is great, and I dare say, even somewhat on the other side of the aisle by the old-timers.

4. I have mixed feelings about this
I would like to see it, but I really don't think it is appropriate. I love Ted, but what qualifies him for a State Funeral? Robert Byrd and Ted Stevens both served in the Senate longer than Kennedy so that wouldn't be it.

8. A state funeral is not to honor time servers but men
who have given great service to their country.

My grandfather got a state funeral in El Salvador and he'd been out of office for years and never had been president. It's a way of recognizing service and it brings people together.

9. If those are the rules, then Senator Kennedy deserves a state funeral.

7. Blue dogs will block it
They'll suggest instead a public viewing in Des Moines.

11. The blue dogs are the reason Kennedy didn't see health care passed.
