I was a PROUD Ted Kennedy delegate in 1980
to my State Convention (TX).

My precinct judge wouldn't speak to me or my dad, who was an alternate delegate.

We were just too radical for him.

Too F*&king bad....

2. Me to. (OK)
The precinct meeting was at my house and I thought Ted would be a hard sale. Turned out it was unanimous as I lived in a rebellious neighborhood and they were over Carter. The county convention was mostly Carter but I got a spot to state anyway for Ted.

3. I was a State Delegate for Kennedy also (WA)
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 02:16 AM by gopiscrap
It was my first precinct caucus and we had about 12 people there and got just enough Kennedy votes ot go on. I was in Pullman, Washington and since hardly any of the college kids showed up, the rest that were there were pretty middle of the road...since I spoke up for Kennedy first, I was the lone Kennedy delgate to go on. I raised a biug ruckus for him at the county level (Whitman County) quite conservative and got to go onto the state convention...in which the liberals from the west side of the sate pretty much filled the national slots. Good experiejnce though and I am proud to have fought for him.

5. I had to sit out that fight.
I thought the world of Teddy, but I like Jimmy Carter, thought he was getting a raw deal on the short period of stagflation and the seized embassy in Iran, and didn't want to undermine a sitting Dem president.

I decided to sit it out as friends picked sides, under the theory we would need Democrats in the post convention who were not part of any Teddy v. Jimmy battle, to help try to heal the wounds.

We still thought Jimmy was going to win it with month or so to go, then it sort of came unraveled. I would have jumped behind Teddy in a minute in '84, if he had chosen to run. I think the world of Mondale, but dayam! He's the complete opposite of Teddy when it came to giving a decent speech.

7. That's a cool story MoL
We were Carter folks that year, but that's still a great story.

Greetings from down the road.
