If Orrin Hatch really was close to Ted Kennedy

now is the time for him to stop his vitriolic diatribes against true health care reform.

I've always heard that Hatch and Kennedy were good buddies, and if that's the case, I want Hatch to step up NOW and HONOR his friend by helping pass MEANINGFUL reform instead of obstructing.

or even support each other for election.

(I don't specifically know where Orrin Hatch stands. I was under the impression he supported the Massachusetts plan (a mandate without a public option) but left the talks in Congress.)

The Senate is a very unique club. Republicans and Democrats are friends, but they don't agree on the issues and they usually don't want them to be elected or reelected.

Maybe the correct word for Senators is frenemies.

It used to be that way, but since DeLay did his magic and managed to cleave a lovely divide between the parties and populate his side, the GOPigs, with True Believers who refused to have anything to do with The Heathen Liberals, it's not like that any more.

Now, it's a blood sport, no socializing across the aisles, and we're all the poorer for it.......................

Politics has been around since the founding of this country and its always been a blood sport since Jefferson-Adams.

However, when elections are over, at least with some in the Senate (I won't say the same for the House or for all in the Senate), they act as if they're friends, even if they endorsed the other guy's opponent.

Sure, the tradition continues of legislators referring to each other as "My good friend from -------," but there are no friendships, not the kind that once existed. Those were the days when things got done. Today we have a Congress that is static, in every sense of that deadly (in politics) word.

It took Gingrich and Delay to complete the unfortunate metamorphosis and turn it into a cut-throat competition instead of the friendly competition tinged with cooperation that had once defined our Congress. They lay their filthy hands on all of it, announcing that no one would be left standing, that it was not good enough for them to win, the liberals had to be vanquished, crushed, annihilated.

The damage that group did will resonate for generations, and it is perhaps their most vile legacy. They are wretches of the lowest order, human filth that should be hidden away from decent society, utterly without any redeeming value of any kind........................

But I suspect Hatch is too busy baptizing Teddy, post-mortem......................

That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing though. Mormons believe you can become the God of your own planet after you die. If Teddy gets his own planet, NASA can sign me up immediately.

I'm sure Hatch would rather face the outrage of even attempting such filth rather than budge an inch on health care.

If there is an afterlife, your devoutly Catholic grandfather gets a choice on whether or not to accept the proxy ordinance, and being a devout Catholic, likely did reject it. If not, then who the hell cares?

I think that Orrin Hatch was just this Monday blaming the lack of passage of any health care bill on Ted Kennedy and his not being there. (Because of his illness.)

It's hard to hold out hope for a turnaround when you're a freaking unrepentant reptile, like Orrin Hatch.

Always hoping that somehow, the hard times of a fellow human will bring out the best in one of these guys.

It's ok to hope that people will do the right thing, I think. Until they show you over and over that they won't. Ever.
