Who do you guys think would do the best job of filling his seat? I'm not familar with most of the politicians in Massachusetts.

13. They obviously meant 'succeed'.
Come on... the context is pretty clear.

16. Barney said on NPR this morning that he's not going to run for Ted's Senate seat
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 09:29 AM by rox63
He's in a powerful position in the house, and he'd be the low man on the totem pole in the Senate.

17. Thanks...
I wish there was someone like Sanders in MA. We could use a lot more like him.

8. No chance at all.
MA voters got burned with Mitt. It won't happen again.

9. Are you sure?
That's what the law says now, but Sen. Kennedy himself wrote a letter urging the Mass. legislature to change the law so that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts would have full representation in the Senate when he could no longer serve. One of the reporters this morning stated that the state legislature is currently not in session but that this is a "fluid situation". So it would seem that the possibility exists that an emergency session could be called to change the law.

The current law, by the way, was put into place to keep a then-Republican governor from naming a successor to Sen. John Kerry should he have been elected President.

11. That's because the law for succession is the way it is--but if the MA
legislature has its way it won't stand for long. Andrew DeLeo, our Speaker, has just backed the proposal to change the law--and seeing as how there are a grand total of about 10 Republicans in the entire MA Congress, if the Dems want it done it will be done.

15. Blue Dog "Dems" don't have an LBJ strong arm to reign them in either
They are free to completely control both parties now. It's a very sad day for America.

18. Who said this?
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 10:27 AM by Proud Liberal Dem
I thought that they were looking to change the law. If they change the law, somebody is appointed to serve out the rest of the term, is somebody saying that they would refuse to seat him/her? What's going on (for us "cube rats")?
