I don't think Massachusetts could get a better replacement for Ted Kennedy. And you know Barney Frank is one of the good ones, someone who would continue to fight for the same issues that Ted Kennedy fought for.

3. He would be good, but he may not want to run for a senator seat with not a lot of seniority
when he has a lot of responsibilities in the House.

But there are a huge number of potential candidates. The real risk is to avoid a war among the too many possible Democratic candidates.

14. You don't want that seat in Republican hands, either
There will be a primary fight, I'm sure, but I think Frank is one of those best qualified to enter the fight.

18. Here is the interview this morning where he says he did not run.
http://www.wbur.org/2009/08/26/frank

He has nothing to win leaving his seat, and it is not clear MA has anything to win either, not because he would not be a good senator, but because we have a large choice of potential good senators.

5. He was on local NPR (Boston) this morning and said "NO", he will NOT run for Senate
He was clear that he had a very important job in the House (Finance Committee) and would not leave this post to run for Senate.

6. I heard him on NPR this morning - He said he won't run for the Senate
He says he is deep into dealing with the problems in our financial system as chair of the House Financial Services Committee, and it would be wrong to abandon that mid-stream. He said this during an interview on Boston's NPR station, WBUR. Heard it on the way to work this morning.

7. He would never have the power in the Senate that he has in the House
He is in his late 60s. He is very likely to ever obtain the seniority needed to head anything, while in the House he is an important committee Chair.

That possibility just put a nice shine on an otherwise poopy day.

Thanks for that!

10. I want to see Joe Kennedy take the seat.
I don't think he will, but he is my first choice. I would not have made it through the last few winters if not for Joe.

12. He's too powerful in the House, too much seniority...
I don't see him giving that up to start over in the Senate.

13. I'd love to have him in the Senate but he'd lose all his seniority. He'll be 70 next year
so that pretty much makes it impossible for him to regain the power he has right now. Maybe we could figure a way to get him BOTH jobs!
:D
