Oh man. Joe Biden is NOT phoning it in.
He is clearly affected by this and is barely holding it together as he makes his remarks.

His being affected affects me.

Wow.

6. Joe and EMK were good friends in the senate and when Joe thought that he wouldn't
take his seat after he was elected in '72 when his wife and daughter died, so he could devote himself to his sons, EMK was one of the men who convinced him that he should and could make a bigger contribution by serving in the senate and still take care of his sons.

9. Joe has the tears going for me all over again.
I'm at the anger stage of grief. I'm pissed. I don't want him to be dead. I want someone to be responsible and I want to punish them for taking Ted away. Completely irrational but there it is.

I didn't know how much this was going to hurt.

Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 09:42 AM by upi402
He seems like a sincere guy, and I'm reserving judgment. Time will tell.

The Senator from Delaware was a top recipient of campaign cash from the Finance/Credit Card companies. He voted for the Bankruptcy Bill. I have not forgotten to watch the walk, not the talk!!!

17. Give it a fucking rest
I am so fucking sick and fucking tired of people calling themselves democrats on the prowl to take ANY fucking opportunity to trash Biden every fucking time he opens his mouth. Y'all are like a fucking broken record. "Hair plugs! Credit Cards! Bankruptcy Bill! Gaffe Machine! *SQUAWK!*"

You don't like Biden. WE FUCKING GET IT ALREADY. Could you at LEAST have the decency to let the VICE PRESIDENT give a speech to say something about a colleague who just fucking DIED?

And in case you haven't noticed, BANKING is one of the TOP industries in Delaware, genius.

Heaven forbid that a senator actually REPRESENT his constitutents.... :eyes:

I wish I was still soft and fuzzy too. But I've seen too much and been through too much. You don't like to be reminded of reality and want buy into posturing and facade.

No, I wont let the betrayal of Americans go to bed and just make nice.

22. I have the decency to remain in reality and not get swept up by emotion
and delude myself. I remain observant of the walk, and tend to ignore the talk. THAT is the difference and it isn't indecent. It is necessary to take back our country. I didn't make this mess but remain vigilant in its clean up, and THAT is decent.

Because they pull the same kind of shit....protesting in the midst of mourning....and feel completely justified doing it.

And there's nothing decent about that, no matter how righteous you think your point is.

28. Wake the fuck up. this isn't a break in the action!
You're wallowing in emotionalism and sensationalism is part of the problem. I will not rest now and will not be distracted from truth in action.

Wallow in your pity party at your own peril. But the actors moving against our Republic are not pausing for a second. Wake the fuck up!!!!

Fool.

There is NO opposition to corporatists like Biden who talk like a worker and kick you in the brains the instant fools like you turn your back or let down your guard. Get a clue, read the Bankruptcy Bill. He would kill you for the gold in your teeth if he could get away with it.

Sucker.

You really want a pissing match supporting this corporate whore who acts like your pal but is really your betrayer?

35. You're right. That IS what's going on
It's no good for the restoration of democracy, but it is true. Most are fine with Blue Team beating Red Team, and not significant change in the powerful that betray us.

Yep, I'm different and have been for decades. I fought this American condition for decades and have beed called a tinfoil hatter, even by Dems, even here. But I was right and continued to fight the good fight through all the Raygun and Bush years. Probably more for the benefit of folks who flame me on this post more than to my own personal benefit.

So fuck me huh, for pointing out facts?

38. But do you notice how often you're referring to yourself?
I can understand your being angry, and of course compliment you for years of work, but if Senator Kennedy taught us anything, it's that you have to build alliances and create good will. The mistake we often see here on DU, and elsewhere, of course, is that people are always making nice long lists of the people they want to avoid completely.

Ted Kennedy formed alliances, and lived to make some long-term changes. Was it perfect? Of course not. Was it all effective? No, probably not. But it accomplished something for the country.

Look, if you're here on DU stirring up anger in your potential allies, perhas you'd better have a think...

39. You're uncomfortable: Biden is the abuser and many here are the battered spouse
He kicked you in the genitals and now shows mere basic human emotion. And because of that we're all supposed to forget the Bankruptcy Bill and drop to our knees crying with him? Not me.
I may be the angry gadfly to battered spouses like you, but I sacrifice my esteem here to make folks uncomfortable with their lack of awareness due to a kind and forgiving heart. Corporatists exploit that weakness, make no mistake. Just like Republicans exploit the religious.

I don't want a 1-man political purity party, we ALL need an opposition party to corporatism. There isn't one. Biden is a corporatist who has kicked Americans in the nuts. I make no apologies for not forgetting what matters and refusing to wallow in emotionalism over his TV statement.

My experience is my truth, my actions and thoughts are what I have. I walk my talk, unlike "Democrat" corporatists. My 'potential allies' clearly need to wake up, it's nearly too late. So I speak out in full awareness of predictable reaction. It's a service that I don't expect to be thanked for. The heat I take is nothing compared to the suffering of so many... even DUers ...who give it to me.

34. Transcript of Biden remarks.
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 01:24 PM by CBHagman
Don't let the date on the website fool you. This was from a live event with Secretary of Energy Steven Chu.

http://thepage.time.com/biden-remarks-on-kennedy-passing/

And, you know, he was never defeatist. He never was petty -- never was petty. He was never small. And in the process of his doing, he made everybody he worked with bigger -- both his adversaries as well as his allies.

Don't you find it remarkable that one of the most partisan, liberal men in the last century serving in the Senate had so many of his -- so many of his foes embracing him, because they know he made them bigger, he made them more graceful by the way in which he conducted himself.

You know, he changed the circumstances of tens of millions of Americans -- in the literal sense, literally -- literally changed the circumstances. He changed also another aspect of it as I observed about him -- he changed not only the physical circumstance, he changed how they looked at themselves and how they looked at one another. That's a remarkable, remarkable contribution for any man or woman to make. And for the hundreds, if not thousands, of us who got to know him personally, he actually -- how can I say it -- he altered our lives as well.
