Bush, Cheney, and the Republicans have put our country into a terrible situation.
Not just with our economy and our relations around the world but with our own system of checks and balances here at home. For those that have been awake for the last 8 years, they know that the $1 trillion dollar deficit does not belong to Barack Obama - it belongs to George W Bush and the Republicans. Those few that are awakened understand the damage done to our reputation around the world - not just our government but our people and our citizens.

But the torture and the rendition and the law-breaking have put our Congress and our citizens in a difficult situation because they know that the crimes need to be investigated and prosecuted. However, our Congress and our President understand that there is political antagonism and opposition against any investigation of past crimes or tortures or law-breaking of any kind. It would divide our country and make it even more partisan than it is already. And there are no guarantees that anyone would be prosecuted and punished.

It is not an easy decision to make. Assassinations are made of such decisions. It is not a simple exercise. We can say investigate and let the chips fall where they may. But is that the wise way to go? We can divide the country even further than it is at present but we would do it in the pursuit of justice and truth and our own salvation. That is the choice that we must make.

2. True. It will be low level CIA agents and contractors that will be prosecuted, not the
true Bush criminals and enabling lawyers. Still, low level grunts in the military are punished for following illegal orders so why have different standards for the CIA/contractors? IMO, it would be better to make changes to avoid this ever happening again. Any one that thinks Cheney will pay for his crimes is extremely naive.

5. I agree.
Whether or not anyone is punished should not prevent from us from finding out the truth and the facts. It is the least we owe ourselves.

History will record our responses to Global Activities:

Olympics? Sporting events Yup, 4 years, all Nations;

InterCultural Events focusing in the Arts Yup, Open Season for Sharing / Bonding

In fact we have many areas of ongoing international cooperation.....from trading to arts and sports. From Research in the sciences to Philosophy of the Best....

MISSING: Solutions addressing current concerns apprehensions...only manini bytes toward overview

BUT...The Whole Point is ::: The Answers/Solutions/Plans/Early Plans/ are being Ignored..save for a small segment of the peeps, it seems most of us simply don't care, or cannot see the damage done by poor decisions....Just Enough Poor Decisions (2000) Put W Bush in Place to wreck mucho Damage to Nation.

So Far, Obama doing a much better job than them Pubs Anticipated....they want him to Fail SO BAD they can taste the blood....

4. IMO it started with Vietnam.
Vietnam drove a wedge into American society and we never recovered from that wound. The "War on Terror" has been driving that wedge deeper and deeper the way I see it. We are so fractured now that healing the country seems impossible sometimes.

7. A choice between a nation of laws and a lawless one is no choice at all.
False choice.
