6. It occurs to me that many so-called "liberals" on DU could learn a lesson from Ted Kennedy
It isn't just your stance on a range of issues, it's your willingness not to give up or give in to negativity. To keep fighting and maintaining a positive attitude.

Well said!

The phrase 'fighting the good fight' comes to mind. There's a lot to be said fighting through adversity and negativity and keeping your head held high all the while.

RIP, Senator Ted - the good folks of this country will sorely miss you whether they know it or not.

9. and to work with others where you can to accomplish your goals
I can't see Teddy calling anyone a freeper or a homophobe or anything else if they disagreed. He was the best combination of competence, strength and civility. He was competent - it means he got things done. He didn't just complain or wish but knew what he could accomplish given what he had to work with. We need more rationale strong competent liberals like Teddy. We also need the GOP to be as competent and rationale

16. We had eight years of Democrats giving in to negativity and it has destroyed the country. It's time
for change. That means no compromise with the assholes that represent 20% of the nation.

4. That is the quote I remember the most about him
I remember when he said that, I watching it on TV which working at a Lutheran School in Yuen Long, Hong Kong. What I loved about Ted is his abition on the part of the marginalized and voiceless. I got interested in public service as a small child because of his brother...but it was Ted who put a human face on it...he taught mne you don't have to be perfect to be a public servant, just willing to go on and never lose heart!!!!!

11. When he first got sick I sent a get-well message to his
website. When he got out ...... I got a thank-you back. I couldn't believe it. I saved and printed it out and even today I feel so proud I as a Canadian got to 'touch' such a great man even in such a minor way. It's very easy to see why you all loved him so much. He truly was a man that cared deeply about you all. His fight won't end with his passing, I know that. RIP Mr. Kennedy and again, my condolences to his lovely family and to everyone here.

13. This has been my sig line for about three years...
Who would have ever thought that a Kennedy brother's birth and death dates would be so far apart? Still, they seem too close together when one thinks of all the work he still felt he had left to do. May those who pick up the torch finish the work and keep his causes and dreams alive.

14. Respect. But, I have to say, lining his nose up with the leg of that star was careless.
He deserves better.
