My sister has a son because of Ted Kennedy
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 12:34 PM by scheming daemons
My oldest sister was unable to conceive children on her own... and after years of trying, at age 33 she decided to adopt.

The only problem was that her husband was 50 years old and had children from a previous marriage, so my sister and her husband were put at the bottom of a VERY long waiting list at all of the adoption agencies.

This was in 1994 and the Soviet Union had just collapsed a few years before... and my sister decided to adopt a 6 month old Russian boy who was living in a St. Petersburg orphanage.

To make the trip and go through the process required my sister to take off from work for 3 months. Prior to the Family and Medical Leave Act, she would've lost her job if she had done so. Because Ted Kennedy created, and Bill Clinton signed, the FMLA in 1993, my sister was able to take the time she needed to adopt her son without losing her employment.

Because of the FMLA, my wonderful 15-year-old nephew Nathan is growing up in a loving home here in the U.S. instead of being left to the crumbling social structure that was (and is) Russia.

This is just one small case... but in my family, it is a very BIG one.

Thank you, Senator Kennedy.

The mailman.

The cable guy.

Her brother-in-law.

Whatever.

Just fill in the blank.

7. I am amazed at how many personal stories we are hearing about how Ted helped this
person or that one. He certainly walked the walked and made a difference to many people's lives.
