1. Teddy was
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 12:58 PM by Libertas1776
always considered the black sheep of the family, a ne'er do well lost in the huge shadows cast by his older brothers. His father, Joseph P. Kennedy, put all his great political aspirations for his children firstly behind the eldest, Joe Jr, who he dreamed would one day reach the presidency. Such hopes were lost when Joe Jr. was killed while fighting in WWII. The next of course, was Jack, who would ascend the presidency and accomplish many great things, only to have his service cut short by an assassin's bullet. And of course, there was Bobby, whose political integrity and charisma helped reinvigorate a nation, only to have him, like his brother before him, be cut down by an assassin's bullet before great things could be accomplished. Then, the only one left was Teddy, the one that most thought would amount to little. Though he attempted to ascend the presidency like his brothers before him, like his brothers save Jack, he would not reach the position. But in the end, that did not really matter. In his more than 45 years as a US Senator, Teddy accomplished so much for the American people. While I am in no way at all attempting to lessen the great effect of the elder Kennedy brothers, it was Teddy who really, truly accomplished the Kennedy family aspirations. It was Teddy who truly sealed their legacy into the annals of American history. His years of public service as a Senator and champion of the people are what completes the legacy, and provides the completing link of the Kennedy dynasty. Only in his passing, do I think we can truly appreciate the magnitude of this American Lion, and his effect on the national psyche.

Ted proved to be bigger and greater than them all.

In many ways, had he become president, it is likely he would have accomplished less rather than more. It is arguable that no one person, over the life of our nation, accomplished more for this country than him. Many achieved greater single successes, but none amassed a record of accomplishment - Realization - than he did.

3. "Ted proved to be bigger and greater than them all"
That pretty much sums up what I was thinking.
