The "Next Teddy"?
Over time, I think the next "lion" with good a liberal sense and humor and work ethic and (to be learned) ability to work with crazy Rethugs will be..... Al Franken.

Been weeping all day and looking for a glimmer of a future stalwart who is also effective legislatively as opposed to rhetorical lost causes in the present time ala my beloved Feingold.

1. Well, I'd hate to call anybody the "next Teddy"...
...because he was one of a kind. But I am incredibly thankful for Al Franken. And Feingold, Leahy, and Whitehouse too.

2. there won't be a next Kennedy. Not saying there won't be excellent
Senators, but Kennedy was the product of an age and that age has passed.

4. I was thinking about this on the way home from work today.
And had the same thought about Franken. I don't know that he'll be the "Next Teddy" but he will have the ability to reach across the aisle and compromise with the opposition.

5. My Senator Barbara Boxer
is in the Kennedy mode ... an unashamed Liberal who fights hard for what she knows is the correct thing.

6. I want a Liberal "Lion", but not one that works with Republicans
We own the House, Senate, and the White House. We don't need no stinkin' Republicans to run this country

9. There will come a time when the Repukes are back in charge
and then we'll need some of them. Teddy was well aware of the cycle changes of power and the need to maintain some measure of good will for when you were the minority again.
I love your spirit, but the statement doesn't reflect long term reality.

10. There is no "next Teddy" because there was only one Ted Kennedy. Are there others who can get along
with the opposition and still remain true to there principals? certainly. But nobody will take Ted's place.

11. to answer your question with a question: who was "Teddy" before Teddy?
Sure, there have been other powerful, larger than life Senators (LBJ comes to mind). But Teddy was one of a kind.

12. No reason for Repugs to respect other liberal...
They are mean, vindictive, back-stabbing bastards.
