My humble contribution to the "debate"
Insurance companies are not in the business of providing healthcare. They are in the business of collecting dollars from American citizens. Doctors, clinics and hospitals are in the business of providing healthcare. Even those entities become less so in the business of providing healthcare to the extent that they are "for profit." For the insurance companies, paying doctors, clinics and hospitals for providing healthcare to their customers is a "cost" that shows up as a negative on their balance sheets. The mandate of the insurance companies is to control or eliminate these costs so that they keep more of their customers' dollars as "profit ("profit" is to the Capitalist religion as "Jesus" is to the Christian religion)." People are very angry that "profit" is being crucified on the same cross they once nailed "Jesus" to. I love this country.

Too many "air quotes," I know. I really don't wanna die a pauper just cause I get old...

2. Profitability and growing the profits is what drives these companies.
The health insurance industry and the major food corporations have their eye on the same goal. And it is our money and not our health and well being. We are like sheep that get sheared on a regular basis so a few ranchers can sock away gabillions and build McMansions all over the world. Then we get sold down the river to the rendering plant.
