Whoops! RNC Admits Screwing Up...

Whoops! RNC Admits Screwing Up With Suggestion That Health Care Reform Could “Discriminate” Against GOPers

A spokesperson for the Republican National Committee is conceding that a mailing was “inartfully worded” in suggesting that health care reform could empower a Dem-controlled health care rationing system to discriminate against Republicans by depriving them of treatment.

Dems are likely to grab on to the slip-up to raise still more questions about the management and competence of Michael Steele’s RNC.

In case you missed it, the RNC sent a mailing, obtained by a local paper in Washington State and now rocketing around the political world, that contained the following loaded question:

“It has been suggested that the government could use voter registration to determine a person’s political affiliation, prompting fears that GOP voters might be discriminated against for medical treatment in a Democrat-imposed health care rationing system. Does this possibility concern you?”

RNC spokesperson Katie Wright concedes to me that the question was a foul-up, though she says there are still legit reasons for Americans to worry about privacy.

“Although the question was inartfully worded, Americans have reason to be concerned about the failure of the Democrats’ health care experiment to adequately protect the privacy of Americans’ personal information,” Wright emails me, adding that the health care reform bill “gives government bureaucrats access to a range of Americans’ personal information.”

Though the RNC is sticking by certain aspects of the core claim, this is basically a concession by the RNC that they screwed this one up, by letting an outlandish claim overshadow what it insists are legit concerns. The RNC was also unable to immediately produce any examples of anyone expressing any “concerns” or “fears” that health care reform would result in such discrimination against Republicans.

Obtained: The RNC’s Health Care Survey

I just chatted with Raymond Denny, the 64-year-old La Center, Wash., man who received the RNC’s “2009 Future of American Health Survey,” which alleged that President Obama’s health reform plans might discriminate against Republicans. Survey at link...

5. Shaking head at such stupidity
All those fucks can think about is party and regaining power.

They have nothing inside of them that would indicate they care about one person outside their little box. Nothing.

8. Which, coincidentally, is EXACTLY why rumors of the gop's demise are greatly exaggerated.
This 'they are gone for good' mentality will hasten our decline.

I'm not saying YOU have said anything like that, but others have been.
