Lou Dobbs delivered moving eulogy for Vonnegut
I admit I am surprised. Cited him as his 'second favorite author' and that his first was one Vonnegut was often compared to - Mark Twain.

In mentioning Vonnegut's "A Man Without A Country", he said "I am glad this country had him."

This isn't to praise Dobbs, I am just stunned that he even gave a damn about Vonnegut, let alone so highly regarded him.

3. His xenophobia is maddening
But every now and then, he surprises me. I recall recently where cited The Great Society as an example of where government can do good things for America. I wonder how much hate mail he got from the wingnuts on THAT comment. :-)

4. He has always been hard to classify.
He can hit quite a few good marks on corporate malfeasance, corporate greed, the outsourcing of jobs, and the destruction of the middle class, but then he goes on about illegal immigrants.

I know he's not a Dem, but sometimes it does make some nice chatter on things we think important.

5. I love watching Dobbs
Even when I don't agree with him, I find him thoughtful, thought-provoking, and courteous. I've seen him interview people who are his polar opposite on issues and never seen him treat them poorly--in fact, I think he is often tougher on those he agrees with, mostly because he hates sloppy thinking and sound-bite-ism.

I wasn't surprised he eulogized Vonnegut, because they share many of the same qualities (if not always the same beliefs).

9. every once in a while he manages to sneak in a snide remark
about Clinton. Gets me mad all over again at him just when I start to think maybe he is not so bad

10. Dobbs is right
I could see Vonnegut next to Twain in great American literature.

11. Hes strange and kind of un-predictable
but I don't have the dislike I have for him that I have for the people at that "other" network. Hes polite and articulate and sort of old school when it comes to being a pundit. Hes not one of the new loudmouth breed. Except for the illegal issue which is his main cause he seems to me to have tilted a little leftward these past few years. Or maybe I am imagining it.
