The passing of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy is no different. Some take the opportunity to leverage the news to organize for or against political issues. Some take it further. When an individual passes a family grieves; that the individual was famous or represented a movement is of no solace to the grieving family. So it is disheartening that some cannot find a moment to take a breathe, say a prayer and let the dead be laid to rest before picking up the gauntlet of political discourse.
Joseph Farah, founder, editor and CEO of WorldNetDaily is no fan of Kennedy’s politics. But in exhibiting a tone deafness to the need for grace and mercy at a time of mourning he brings dishonor to his cause. Today in his political commentary he chooses to use his megaphone to dismember, dishonor and disrespect the memory of a fallen American leader.
His words speak for themselves:
I know there's an old adage that one shouldn't speak ill of the dead.
But I don't subscribe to the idea that when evil and foolish people die we should pretend they were something other than evil and foolish.
And Ted Kennedy was evil and foolish.
He wasn't just a politician with whom I disagreed.
He was a rotten man – a wicked man.
I know you're not hearing this from the rest of the press. I know you're not even hearing this from his worst critics. But if we can't call Ted Kennedy wicked and immoral, those terms have lost all meaning.
That even one of the 50 states would deem him worthy of serving in the U.S. Senate for most of his life is something of a national disgrace.
Shame on you Mr. Farah. Not for disagreeing with Kennedy’s policies but for lacking the grace to know the difference between politics and humanity. Kennedy’s voice is silenced; he will cast no more votes you deplore. So take a moment to honor the loss of a life; even one you feel didn’t live up to your standards and remember that we are all on this planet for a limited time. Our politics will fade into vapor but our spirit of humanity and grace will live on in the memories of those who remain.
