Laptop blamed for fire death
This would be a good PSA,don't leave your laptop on something combustible.

A laptop left on a sofa has been blamed for causing a fire which killed a man in Vancouver.

According to the Coroners Service of British Columbia, the fire – which happened earlier in 2009 – was caused when the lithium-ion battery in the laptop overheated because of the lack of ventilation and set fire to the sofa.

There was a pretty bad Dell recall a few years ago because the batteries would get hot enough to explode. (Think about what your laptop is often sitting right over!)

6. Get a folding vent tray ($10) - Office Max, Staples, Office Depot
It has a metal bar so you can use it to elevate the thing or collapse the bar and lay it out flat. I've got about 10 of them around the house (we also have five laptops and two minis). Even the minis generate heat - and neither has a hard drive. They make a bunch of different "chill mat" type things and you don't need one with a fan - just good air flow.
