at pro-health care reform rally Wednesday, Righty stood on our side and waved a giant Soviet flag
Edited on Fri Aug-28-09 12:49 PM by yurbud
At a health care reform rally in Ventura, CA, a right winger came over to the pro-reform side and waved a Soviet flag. I guess he didn't know that all our allies in Europe have some form of government run health insurance or medicine, or that after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the end of socialized medicine, life expectancy there DROPPED dramatically.

It is also ironic that the only thing the righties seem to remember from history is their old boogey men--the Soviet Union, communism, the Nazis (a confused and bittersweet fear), and Abe Lincoln.

1. the trouble is that people believe what they want to believe.... they don't bother to
look anything up and just believe what others say or some fuzzy recollection from their school days of what they might have learned in a history book if they were even paying attention.

2. Commies? Commies? Why does that name sound familiar?
OH, YEAH!!! Now I remember. We went toe-to-toe with the Commies in Korea: that ended in a stalemate.

Then we went to spread "democracy and freedom" in Vietnam. We lost. And we lost 58,000 troops. Then when we normalized relations with Red Vietnam in 1995, US corporations, who had been telling us for decades about the evils of communism, fell all over each other to get in there to set up factories and fast-food outlets.

When the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, we lost our boogieman, so we had to get another. Enter the "Terrorist."

Doesn't matter if it Communists or Terrorists, the Oligarchs win...

3. Does anyone else find it suspicious
that this person claiming to be an American, just HAPPENS to own a huge commie flag? Maybe "Ivan" there needs to back to Russia.

5. looks more like a Rammstein fan
poor brainless anticommunists: they probably have no idea what Communists really stood for, or the tremendous varieties of Marxism that faced the CIA's Army of Light
of course, into the 80s Quayle and Daniel O. Graham insisted that Gorby was a hardline Stalinist, and Cold Warriors were bleating that we were facing the ultimate evil--so we had to shell Nicaragua and gun down priests

6. One rightie did that once
to one of the locals when we were trying to keep Air America up...

Well I looked him in the eye and said, "Dankehen Kamerad."

To say that he was a little clueless was fun.

A few of the other folks got the joke and started to point at him and calling him Kammerad.

He decided to leave.

Of course a few of us said, Nosvedayna...

Go ahead and say it, we were really bad boys and girls that day.

8. You should have asked him if he was showing his pride over
our new gulag prison system instituted by George Bush by waving that flag.
