Goodling May Be Offered Immunity

Goodling may be offered immunity.

“The House Judiciary Committee is ’strongly considering’ offering former DoJ official Monica Goodling immunity in exchange for her testimony in the U.S. Attorney matter, according to one very solid congressional source. Goodling had preemptively asserted her Fifth Amendment rights and has declined to be interviewed or to testify before Congress. … Per Pete Williams, Goodling’s attorney, John Dowd, has no comment on the immunity question.”

UPDATE: Time magazine has a similar report. 7:07 pm

1. That seems to be their plan. The Bushes, that is.

3. She better spill some beans to have the immunity
I wonder how that's decided. I mean, she has to promise some goods, no?

6. I don't think so. But she will have to promise to tell the truth.
The Bushes may be setting her up to the the sympathetic actor, ala Oliver North. If they can make a big deal out of putting her on, and the Dems come up empty, the Bushes might be able to paint the Dems as mean old partisans on a fishing expedition.

9. I don't know about painting Dems as mean etc
Reason I think that is that the emails are all missing. The obvious lie about the email makes the Rs look like guilty, desperate liars. The Nixonian similarity is like a broken record playing.

But that's my partisan, lefty opinion. :)

10. But she might not know anything about the emails,
so the Dems can't bet the farm on this mystery girl who just happened to call all of the attention her way for no known reason.

11. The committee has to know what she will testify to before they grant the immunity
They don't just grant immunity then roll the dice and hope she might say something that they can use.

17. and if she does not testify as she said she would
and/or otherwise reneges on the deal, she can and likely would lose her immunity and be found in contempt of Congress.

5. Goodling is small fry compared to the others.
Most law agencies are willing to let a small time criminal go free in order to convict one of the big guys. I hope she sings like a bird.

8. She had better demonstrate she has something or congress ought to throw the book at her
...who was the weasel that testified before Easter recess that looked like KKKarl Rove, I forget his name. He can forward claiming he would cooperate and then he threw up one roadblock after another, using "I don't remember/don't know" no less than 124 times!

14. She is one of the nuts from the right wing law school.
She will lie for god. Her best friend lost most of her staff after a few weeks on the job. To much god in the work place.

16. It's a bad idea.
She is a Bushbot. She will have memory loss, tell half truths or outright lie.
