Secret camps and guillotines? Groups make birthers look sane
Secret camps and guillotines? Groups make birthers look sane

By Steven Thomma | McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — Is the federal government building secret camps to lock up people who criticize President Barack Obama?

Will it truck off young people to camps to brainwash them into liking Obama's agenda? Are government officials planning to replicate the French Revolution's Reign of Terror, using the guillotine to silence their domestic enemies?

No. The charges, of course, are not true.

However, the accusations are out there, a series of fantastic claims fed by paranoia about the government. They're spread and sometimes cross-pollinated via the Internet. They feed a fringe subset of the anger at the government percolating through the country, one that ignites passion, but also helps Obama's allies to discount broader anger at the president's agenda.

In one, retired FBI agent Ted Gunderson says the government has prepared 1,000 camps for its own citizens. He also says the government has stored 30,000 guillotines to murder its critics, and has stashed 500,000 caskets in Georgia and Montana for the remains.

Why guillotines? "Because," he wrote in a report obtained by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks hate groups, "beheading is the most efficient means of harvesting body parts."

1. 500,000 caskets? If they were going to guillotine them, why would they
bother with caskets?? One would think such a government would just use mass graves, or simply burn the bodies.

ROFLMAO at the idiocy..........

Oh, dear. Somebody needs to take a class in remedial organ harvesting technique.

wasn't nutcase Gunderson involved in "proving" that POS Jeffrey McDonald ("Fatal Vision") did not kill his pregnant wife and two daughters? I'm pretty darn sure that's the context where I've heard that asshole's name before.

10. The left never, ever falls for conspiracy theories like this, of course
Absolutely no way. secret concentration camps? Mass coffin purchses for mass executions? Government planning to herd dissidents into train cars and spirit them away? No sir, you've never ever seen that kind fo speculation among lefties, especially not at DU!

Sorry...but I fail to see how our nutjobs are any different from their nutjobs in regards to this particular conspiracy theory. You could take some old posts straight off DU and just change a few names to get the stuff above.

there are the people who supported torture, illegal wars, lowering taxes on the wealthiest, 1%, etc, etc, etc. perhaps they are paranoid because the supported such unfair, illegal and inhumane policies.

I always wanted to see how those things work. Maybe they'll try one out on some fundamentalist pastor before the whole process goes balls to the wall.

16. Guillotine joke
Three Americans are visiting France, when the get into a spot of trouble, and are sentenced to guillotined. The three are, a doctor, a lawyer, and an engineer. They lead the doctor out to the guillotine, and ask him if he wants to face up, or down. The doctor say's "up", so they place him on the board facing up. The executioner yanks the rope to release the blade, but nothing happens. The executioner then says "according to our tradition, you are now free to go, because this shows you are really innocent". Of course, the doctor is very happy with this outcome. Next, they ask the lawyer if he wants to face up, or face down. The lawyer, figuring if it worked for the doctor, it will work for him, says "Face up". They place him face up, the executioner pulls the rope, the same thing happens, so they let him go too. Lastly, the bring out the engineer, who also says he wants to be face up, and they do so. Just as the executioner grabs the rope, the engineer says "I think I see what the problem is".

25. This story reminds me of all those FEMA camps being constructed in the boondocks
during the BushCo Reign of Terror. What goes around comes around.

This is the first guillotine story I've heard, though. You'd think they'd come up with some quicker, more efficient way of killing more internees at once. Something like large showers with gas coming out of the shower heads. That's the high-tech kind of "solution" you'd expect in a technologically-advanced society. Right?

27. So we're gonna guillotine them? That's not what we agreed to do at the meeting
last weekend. Last weekend we all agreed to pack them carefully in cardboard boxes and ship them to our penal colony on Mars. I understand plans sometimes have to change, but why am I always the last to hear?

28. Didn't you get the memo?
We're going to guillotine them first - then attach robot bodies to their living severed heads - before we put them in the cardboard boxes headed for Mars.

29. If I wanted to harvest body parts I would lobotomize the victims and take them
one at a time as needed for as long as possible

that or freeze them to death since you need to keep the organs cool while transporting them (I think)

I guess these people can't understand anything created after 1750 or so
