Tweety is such a shit...
"Bobby Kennedy was the only liberal who would say 'hello' to a police officer."

Screw him...how does he KNOW that...he's such a RW rumor-mongerer and slimy prick...spitting away...always bringing up bullshit theories and never avoids a chance to bring up Reagan...or tip O'Neill...name-dropping dope...repeats the same shit during the day that he said the night before...word for word...dumbass...

Why couldn't we have swapped Rachel for him? All he wants to do is promote that documentary. We only got Rachel for like 20 minutes last night.

he just is so blunt and crass - like saying - now they are taking the 'body' instead of Senator Kennedy's body is being taken - he just has no class

15. yeah, I saw the doc.
Firstly, it's kind of impossible to have a good documentary about all three brothers in just an hour, so I wasn't surprised it was kind of trite. Secondly, Tweety was so awkward in the narration, like on Jackie "Who could be a loser with her at his side?" Uh, ok.

23. Tweety's book on Kennedy and Nixon is a hoot
I found it in a bargain bin a few years ago and picked it up.

It shows Tweety in the throes of mancrush big time - and way before he praised Bush's 'sunny nobility'. The book must have 50 glowing terms for Jack's smile alone. It was absolutely gushing and as history was pretty fluffy.

33. Ah yes, We "liberals" be hating cops
all around the world :sarcasm: Actually, it is my understanding that the constable then offered his hand to Gordon Brown (possibly expecting the same kind of respect received from the American president from his Prime Minister) who in turn snubbed him and did not shake his hand.

I remember in the month after 9/11 when I caught a cop's eye and he grinned at me. It would never have happened before 9/11. But for a while, the cops and the citizens stopped being afraid of each other.

even shen he lived in "Philly".

I'm from Philly and I'll tell you one thing...he is UNMEMORABLE HERE. No one, not ONE FRIGGING PERSON, remembers him from his youth and I know literally thousands of people via my practice here...no one has EVER mentioned knowing him, but they WILL mention dozens of others who went on to 'media' greatness (Jessica Savitch, Andrea Mitchell, all the singers of the 50's 60's and 70's, all the basketball and football players, Reggie Jackson, etc.) just to 'show' how 'connected' they are...we're guilty of that here - terribly. but I LOVE this town...

People always talk that they knew these folks but in 30+ years of practice in Center City, NO ONE has ever told me they knew Tweety as a youth. NOT ONE.

25. I was thinking the same thing. It's all well and good to take umbridge at Tweety's remarks...
...but anyone that EVER tries to defend the police on this board is roundly DESTROYED by fellow DUers.

For the record, I think Matthews is dead wrong. But anyone who pretends there isn't a pretty damn large portion of our ranks that seems to hate the police with a passion (and are very vocal about it) is living life with blinders on.

Again, I don't like or agree with what he said, but I'm not shocked he thinks it to be honest.

28. My husband and I commented to each other when Chris said that.....
I said...."what in the fuck does he know? Is he there watching what every liberal does?"

My hubby said...."with Chris Matthews, it is always about him, and he seems to think that he knows way more than he does....cause when I listen to him, I always conclude that he doesn't know jackshit."

In othewords, Chris Matthews was not elected to be in front of my television, telling me what he thinks as though it is a fact...which is why I turned him off as soon as he said that crap.

He's nothing but a rich frat boy member of the pundit elites who hides his conservatism each and every day....but in the end, he hates paying taxes and hates the common man he so tries hard to be identified with.

32. Chris's mouth runneth over today - he said a few things that made me go
:wow:

such as going on about the Kennedys compared to the British royal family, and how the British were intermarried with no chins, and how anyone marrying into the Kennedy family got a better deal with looks. That was one of the standout examples.

I wish I could've seen the expressions on Keith's and Eugene's faces when he riffed on that one.

That's the problem with free-form commentary during events like this. It's safer to have some people stick to the script.

racist...

whatever may or may not be true about the Royals, to impugn their genetic makeup as a network functionary is grotesquely inappropriate...

38. It IS racist...
it's impugning a genetic class of individuals. you may not LIKE these people, you may not AGREE with their policies, but I daresay that referring to their chins, to their intermarriages over the centuries (not at all unusual among ANY group including my own...I have legally married 1st cousins in my blood family), and to their genetic heritage in the fashion in shich this lick-spittle creep did, is racist. sorry if you're offended, but the direction of racism is not limited to people of a certain color, religion, or whatever happens ot be the cause du jour.

Of course, if you don't think so, you don't. good for you!

39. I was not offended, just surprised
As I said, I think the comment was kind of idiotic and inappropriate, but definitely not racist. And I think you confuse racism with discrimination. Discriminating against gays for instance is vile, but not racist. As for intermarriages, I agree that it is not that unusual to have first cousins marry as you say (my husband's grandparents are examples), but it is definitely not common to have it happen often. And when it does, it tends to have consequences. Definitely not always, but definitely more often than in other communities (if royals can qualify as a community :-)).

40. Just one second, my friend...
I do take your point, but I would disagree with your parsing of discrimination vs racist. As I stated, he was directly impugning the birthright/ancestry of the British (Read: Germanic) royal family. Now I have no love for these people in any way shape or form, and feel that Diana was probably driven literally and figuratively to her death, but that begs the question/issue. What Tweety did was focus in his fashion upon the peculiarly-bred ancestral line which has diverged, in his 'weighty' opinion, from the rest of us. He was making the statement that the Kennedy's - our 'royalty(!)' are better looking due to genetics than their royalty/lineage because they are genetically isolated from the ordinary folk. They are, in Tweety's warped mind, a subspecies of mankind, and thus worthy of distinction and IMO, racist - certainly if it were coming from a person of color directed towards the Royals, I'd think so, so how does Tweety differ in this regard?

I didn't say these things, HE did. If someone on DU started explaining the differences between people of color and how they're perceived by their own race and others IN THE FASHION IN WHICH TWEETY DID FOR THE ROYALS, he or she would be pilloried. And rightly so...that is not to say that we can't have a discussion of group and individual differences in this regard, but imagine...just imagine...I wouldn't give any examples here but you get my drift I'm certain.

37. Matthews is always trying to cast current events in terms of some
screenplay, novel, or movie. He doesn't traffic in truth telling, but in trying to make political myth out of whole cloth. I have very little respect for him. He's a blatant suck up to old monied DC types, totally suffers from verbal diarrhea, and has sadly come to believe the blatherings himself and those like him are gospel. Once in awhile he has a moment of lucid clarity, but these are few and far between. The number of rebroacast times they give Hardball is a lot of wasted air time that could be put to better use.
