Democratic states need to STOP electing republican governors
Edited on Sat Aug-29-09 05:26 PM by SoCalDem
California does it.
Massachusetts does it.
New Jersey has done it
Vermont does it
and I'm sure there are others.

No one "expects" a senator to die or resign, but whenever it does happen, there is always a big "to-do" over the filling of that empty seat, and it's always reminiscent of grinding salt into a gaping bloody wound.

If a state repeatedly sends democrats to DC , they surely should be able to find an acceptable democrat to sit in the governor's chair.

Of course the logical way to do this when it occurs, would be to automatically elevate the ranking member of the house, of the same political party of the departing one, and then start a new 6 year term at the next regular election for whomever wins.

This does not happen very often, but the differing ways of states selecting their replacement is very hit-and-miss, and usually leads to hasty changes that are regretted later.

1. appointing a Senator isn't the biggest concern I have about having a repuke gov
Fortunately, Jim Douglas won't be running again. And I can't see Brian Dubie, our current Lt. Gov- or any other Vermont repub winning next year.

2. All Senate vacancies should be filled by special election, as they are in the House.

It has always worked there.

The only reason we have this inequity is because senators were not directly elected until 1911.

CHRIST WILL KNOW HIS OWN
Conservative Wiki Offers Helpful List of Senate Democrats To Assassinate, So Republican Governors Can Appoint GOP Replacements

Once a wingnut, always a wingnut. (Actual slogan of Detroit Red Wings fanatics.)Americans, are you still letting your idiot kids do all their “research” from the liberal-propaganda pit of vipers known as the “Wikipedia,” which is filthy with scientific facts and frighteningly detailed Buffy the Vampire Slayer trivia? Well stop it, now, and Porn Block every site that’s not Conservapedia, the home of conservative pedophiles “The Trustworthy Encyclopedia.” For example, say your home-schooled-in-Christ kid needs to do a report on which states would benefit from Dem senators who, tragically, “were unable to complete their terms and were replaced by qualified Republicans by their Republican governors.” Where to go? That homosexual devil box “Wikipedia” surely would be of no assistance, to Patriots!

Here is the actual entry, “Senate Democrats from States with Republican Governors”:

5. MN. made a huge mistake when it re-elected Pawlenty. Now people are going to
think the State actually approved of his job. Not! They just didn't run anyone strong enough to unseat him.

They get just enough liberals suckered in by their mix of Libertarian and "Progressive" policy positions to throw the election to the Pukes. :grr:

13. True. But also the Dems need to run better campaigns and people. It is embarrasing
to me that anyone more progressive or Democratic, ever voted for this liar and slick willy. Obviously there wasn't a strong enough candidate.

9. There's a naive bit of conventional wisdom...
...out there in low-information-voter-land that divided government is a good thing per se, that you elect one batch of crooks to keep an eye on the other batch of crooks, and if nothing gets done as a result, that's a good thing too.

I suspect this may be more common in states like MA that have very unbalanced legislatures. My otherwise-intelligent brother in CA adduced this as a good reason, besides that 'it would be cool', for voting for Schwartzenegger. (CA's legislature is lopsided....just not enough to break the logjam.)

12. It's inherently misguided
Like hiring two managers for your company..two guys who LOATHE each other.. and then hoping they'll work together for the sake of the company
