Keith just smacked down Tweety
Tweety commented that Obama should be at Arlington because of what Kennedy did for him instead of staying on vacation.

Keith smacked that down, politely.

Tweety withdrew the comment.

1. KO said that Obama knew when to be respectful
should have mentioned the hassle of the SS and all of that!

39. I immediately thought about the SS when Tweety made his comment.
Imagine having both the POTUS and the VP there with all those hills and trees? I know Arlington House and the Kennedy grave sites were closed to the public all day, but still ... too many places for "trouble" to hide. It also would have been a nightmare when it got dark. I can't imagine the SS would have let Obama stay.

I was impressed when Tweety withdrew the comment. Of course, he didn't do that until Keith politely told him he was a jackass, but at least he did it.

6. He said it was most likely that what with having delivered the eulogy earlier,
he wanted to step back and let the burial ceremony be an event with the spotlight on the family and primarily for the family and not distract attention from that.

5. It was all polite and thoughtful with Tweety voluntarily withdrawing the comment after
Keith's comment for why the Prez may not be there so I think it was all fine.

I think Obama purposefully doesn't like to make things about him when they should be about someone else. Whenever he goes somewhere, it inevitably revolves around him. I think he thoughtfully doesn't want that to happen sometimes - like now.

17. True but someone was there to counter his point and he accepted that.
When he said it, it pissed me off. I was glad Keith responded and it ended up as well as it could other then Tweety not saying it in the first place although I'm sure some people were already thinking about that issue.

20. I have to disagree. It wasn't polite to imply that
since the President owed a great debt to Kennedy's support during the campaign, that he ought to have been there. Matthews was making the President out to be an ingrate. I thought that was pretty shitty of him and I'm glad Keith countered it in such a way to make him verbally retract it.

Giving Matthews the benefit of the doubt here on his petty remark. Glad KO turned it around and that Matthews was big enough to withdraw the comment.

which he thankfully did instead of digging in.

It was calm and measured which is rare on Cable News.

7. I'm glad Keith shut him up and I agree with Keith's suggestion
that

1) The President paid the most significant tribute by delivering the eulogy;

2) In response to the VP's presence, it could have been an issue of "who gets to go" representation, in which case it would be the man who spent the most time in the Senate with Senator Kennedy.

Chris, that was a fucknut comment.

41. Matthews should limit the length of his days
I don't know if it has to do with his diabetes or what, but when he is on air a long time, he gets verbal diarrhea. He really should restrict how many hours a day he is "on" to control this.

I think he has spent too many hours going this week and that Teddy Kennedy's death really has affected him. He seemed overtired all day today with no internal censor.

I got pissed when he started going on about Chappaquiddick while the ceremony was still taking place this evening.

13. Damn Tweety Can Be Such A Clod !!!
Besides not wanting to upstage the ceremony, it was reported earlier that if the burial was going to be happening as it got dark, that that would be an untenable security risk for Obama and the Secret Service!

You'd think that Tweety, being a "reporter", might have heard about that, but then I guess we'd all be wrong on that one.

that this was for family and those of us allowed to watch. And, terrible as it is to say, it's exposure at a time when his security would have been challenged and would have added a lot of chaos.

Oh dog, here he goes on again about how attractive the Kennedy family is. At least this time, he stopped short of bashing the royal family. I think Tweety's sugar level gets skewed after a long day like today. All the M$NBC commentators are running out of stuff to say.

38. Ugh
I watch very little cable news, and today reminded me why. While Olbermann was narrating rather appropriately and eloquently, Matthews kept piping up like a jack russel terrier, just yap, yap, yapping away to total, inappropriate distraction. Every time he opened he mouth, I cringed, because I knew there was nothing good coming.

90% of the time, he proved me right.

42. Tweety is very jealous of Keith, imo.
Tweety had the stage all by himself until Keith appeared on the scene, and the PTB at MSNBC decided (during the primaries) it would be a good idea to have Keith anchor political programming. Until then, Tweety was their "go to guy". Needless to say, it was a big blow to Tweety's overblown ego and only played into his insecurity.
