Did Imus say a "dumb blonde joke?"
Edited on Thu Apr-12-07 09:38 PM by catgirl
Okay, for decades now, there have been the 'ole dumb blonde jokes. You've
heard them at work, at parties, at the gym. You've heard the "wife" "old lady"
jokes at work (even we women hear them and laugh...better than crying). Was
Imus just going with the flow of american male "humor" to simply make a funny?

At first I was appalled that these radio figures get away with this crap. Then I thought
about the fact that Imus recently stated that Dick Cheney should be handcuffed and
sent to prison. Then I thought about how Dan Rather was frisked and put in jail-shortly
after doing his famous airing of the soldiers killed in Iraq, and later losing his job after
being set up with fake papers on George Bush (how Rove can you go).

I still think Imus' words are offensive, as much as I think all anti-women jokes are. I
think he was going with the flow, as his guest used the word Ho. Imus went along. It
was wrong, but it was a normal american male thing to do-only he added a twist of
racial degradation to it, which made it hurt even more.

I can't help thinking though, that Cheney may have played a part in making this a huge
thing, cause really, how many people really notice when a radio personality steps over the line?
And to blossom so quickly? I've never seen a polically incorrect "event" or "happening" cause
major sponsors to pull out so quickly. I can't help thinking that Dick Cheney fanned the air
behind this happening.

4. Okay, I've never been interested in him

But come on, Howard Stern has said a lot worse. Talk about degrading.

7. Yes, and Stern's employers have paid millions on dollars of FCC fines for what
he said. They didn't fire him, though.

3. ah, if ANYTHING, Imus debacle has helped cheney/bushco junta
Look at all the page one space NOT reporting on malAdministration crimes this past week.

No, Imus has just finally annoyed too many people. In this age, annoyed people can ban together and make their collective voices heard better. It was just the response of the marketplace to a bunch of pissed off consumers.

cheney & rove were granted a bit of time from the whole affair.

8. Yes. He was hauled down to the police station
Edited on Thu Apr-12-07 09:53 PM by catgirl
He came out of a restaurant with his take-out food to find his driver
being frisked by the cops. When he protestedn he was hauled down to
the station. I'll try to find a link. It was only briefly mentioned in MSM.
Maybe he wasn't thrown in jail, but he was detained at the station.

Remember when Rather's driver was harrassed for illegally parking in front
of the restaurant (where Dan was picking up food). I think it was in NYC.
It was hush hush in the media and I think Rather probably wanted it to go
away too. This was before the fake papers came into his hands, and his
eventual dismissal from the network. It all had the mark of Cheney-Rove.

14. No, it was definately Dan Rather

He was handcuffed, bought to the police station and detained for
several hours. I was shocked that the story died so quickly. It barely
made the news. This was a few months (or so) before he was supplied
with false military records on Bush.

15. That was Mike Wallace... not Dan Rather...
Edited on Thu Apr-12-07 10:27 PM by Radio_Lady
He double-parked in front of one of his favorite NYC restaurants, and went in to get some take-out food. When he came out, he was being ticketed. He yelled at the cop and was cited for "disorderly conduct." He discussed it the following days after the incident happened.

On edit: NYC Girl has the link in the downthread post.

Good night and good luck.

16. That was Mike Wallace:
http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/08/10/wallace.arrest/

CBS News veteran Mike Wallace, 86, was arrested Tuesday evening outside a New York City restaurant and issued a summons for disorderly conduct.

Alan Fromberg, deputy commissioner for public affairs at the Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC), told CNN that Wallace allegedly lunged at a TLC inspector about 8:30 p.m. ET.

Two TLC inspectors saw that Wallace's vehicle, registered with the commission, was double-parked and approached the driver. According to Fromberg, while the two inspectors were questioning the driver and checking the vehicle, Wallace came out of Luke's Bar and Grill on Manhattan's Upper East side carrying a take-out order.

Wallace then approached the two inspectors, Fromberg said, in an "overtly assertive and disrespectful manner." Wallace was asked to step away three times by the inspectors. Wallace did not comply.

11. Imus called Cheney a "war criminal" - in those exact words - a fair number of times recently
I wouldn't at all be surprised if he or Rove were involved in this. Imus has also referred to the Idiot-in-Chief on numerous occasions as either an "idiot" or a "moron", I can't remember which precise word he used. So I, too, think that there's more behind this than meets the eye.

13. Maybe not Cheney, but sort of in an indirect way.
The producer, Bernard, has always been a bush/cheney buttboy. Lately Imus has veered off in another direction with scathing hits on both bush and cheney, and Bernard just stares at him and acts slightly disgusted. If anyone heard the whole Imus incident, it was clear that Bernard made the first slur against the Rutgers team and Imus followed through, like a punchline to a set up joke. I did wonder whether it wasn't done intentionally to get the boss in hot water. It has become obvious lately that Imus is often a bit rattled and scatterbrained, especially when Bernard and Sid start egging him on. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that they were both pleased when the shit hit the fan.

26. From a distance:
There are 8 rabid conservative/republican media personalities. Each has a habit of going way over the line in insulting various minorities. All contribute to the republican machine.

A year ago, one of the eight begins to turn on parts of the machine. He calls the president and vice president "war criminals." He covers stories about the mistreatment of veterans. His wife's influence begins to show when he challenges some corporations and their puppets in Washington DC, for products that are possibly damaging children.

Around December, he began a daily attack on a republican Congressman who was rude to his wife concerning children with autism. The congressman called NBC and MSNBC, demanding that they "control" him. He mocks the congressman daily, and says he can't be controlled on this issue.

During the Libby trial, he humiliates one of VP Cheney's beast friends, who was a co-leader of Libby's public relations unit. She had also been one of the top WHIG public relations people.

In April, he crosses the line once again. Many people correctly demand consequences. These are largely the same people who call for consequences for each of the other 7 when they do things that are equally bad. The 7 who are machine lap dogs do not face consequences. The one who had voiced opposition to the machine is fired.

It is important to see the big picture. It does not require that one like Imus in any way. One can -- and should -- be repulsed by many of the things he has done over the years. But it is interesting to consider why he was fired.
