Anyone else suffering from ragweed-induced allergy misery?
My allergies hadn't been too bad in recent years, but they returned this month with a show of force. Thank goodness for Claritin (or the generic Target version of it, anyway) :)

1. Yep...
I don't know if it's ragweed but something is making me miserable. I get my generic Claritin at Costco --- it's about $12 for 100 or 200. I can't remember how many but it's way cheaper there than anywhere else. In fact, I need to get some this week.

3. Allegra 180 works a lot better than Claritin
I have bad allergies - year round. Allegra 180 is my savior! None of the other allergy medications due much of anything.

If you get desperate, ask for some Allegra 180. It comes in a generic form that is a lot cheaper FYI.

Hope you are feeling better soon!

19. For You-not for me
Everybody is different. Claritin has been the drug of choice in my battle against seasonal allergies. Use what works for you.

4. Only all my life
The day that Claritin went OTC was one of the happiest days of my life.

However, I now take the Walgreen's version of Zyrtec, because like all allergy meds, Claritin stopped working after a few years, as Allegra had before it.

10. Ragweed is very high at this time. My daughter works at Vanderbilt
in the asthma sinus and allergy clinic. My allergies have been terrible. I have HBP and I have a horrible time treating my allergies.

14. I did the scratch tests at my allergy and asthma clinic 5-10 years ago.
They found it easier to say what didn't cause a reaction. They're the ones who summed it up with me being allergic to nature in general. I really don't care for spring and summer.

I know family members with HBP who have a hard time finding the right treatment. It's rough.

6. Not ragweed.
Mould. Bloody stinking mould, and there's been a garbage strike this year, added to the extra dose of rain. That means there's twice as much as usual of the blasted stuff.

Am I happy? Not in the least, especially since I have to be very careful that my meds and the antihistamines don't fight. I'm sitting here with a brand new box of tissues and my latest attempt at controlling the wheezing.

I am NOT impressed at the moment.

8. I delayed my usual late summer trek to T.O. because of the garbage strike.....
..... I figured it would take a while to get rid of all remnants.

But the delay means I'll be going to the Toronto Int'l Film Festival for the first time. :woohoo:

17. For me, both ragweed & molds
Plus, I can't take the most common meds for allergies.

Thinking the moon looks like a nice place to live.

You have all my sympathies (here, have a cuppa and some tissues). Yeah, except for that pesky oxygen thing, the moon has sounded wonderful from time to time.

7. My daughter.
Loratadine + pseudoephedrine in the AM, just Loratadine at night (the pseudoephedrine keeps her awake).

Anyone else really annoyed at being treated like a criminal for needing pseudoephedrine?

(Good thing ragweed doesn't bother me. The quantities permitted are only sufficient to treat one adult, and minors aren't permitted to purchase them for themselves - so until recently I had to use my quantity to buy them for my daughter.

although claritin stopped working, for some reason. is that possible? i have switched to benedryl, and Astelin on show days. i sing in a band, and cannot take the dryness that comes with benadryl on show or practice days. Astelin spray works ok for me.

15. I'm finally taking shots-
After the last 4 years of increasing misery and an intolerance for the weirdness that comes from allergy meds I'm finally on allergy shots. I feel pretty good so far, and ragweed is a'bloomin' around here.

18. NM isn't ragweed country
but I've been sneezing like crazy the past week or so. The pollen report hasn't been forthcoming lately, so I have no clue what's spiked lately, probably chamisa but it never bothered me before.

Either that or I maybe need to think about cleaning this place for a change.
