Police: 8th person dead in Ga. mobile home attack
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090831/ap_on_re_us/us_mobile_home_slayings

"Ga. – An eighth person died Sunday from grievous wounds suffered in an attack at a Georgia mobile home, with police acknowledging they didn't know if the killer was on the loose.

The latest casualty was one of two people hospitalized after they were discovered along with seven bodies in the same home Saturday morning in Brunswick, said Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering. Nineteen-year-old Michael Toler lived in the home and is the first and only victim police have named"

"Doering would not say how the eight were killed and would only say they ranged in age from teenagers to adults. A ninth victim was hospitalized Sunday in Savannah. Police are offering a $25,000 reward for information, with Doering saying, "We need help."

"Police have arrested one man — a family member who lived in the mobile home and called 911 to report the attack, police said. Guy Heinze Jr., 22, faces charges of tampering with evidence, lying to police and illegal possession of prescription drugs and marijuana. He was jailed Sunday."

This really smells like a drug deal gone bad or a drug freak-out. Tampering with evidence? Sounds druggie to me.

1. I'd like to know if you think a gun was used to slaughter those folks.
Or maybe it was one of those butter knife massacres instead, which can be as deadly and wanton.

2. No, I think it was the power of imagination.
:eyes:

Are we doing this dance again?

Ok, I know the steps.

I'm going to sensibly blame criminal behavior, drugs and poverty for this tragic event. You're going to blame an inanimate object which in your mind has magical powers over people.

All snark aside, it doesn't matter because legal and lawful gun owners shouldn't lose their rights because of the crimes of others. The gun control laws in place don't matter because I imagine a pack of drug dealers would pay those much mind. I do think that criminals, felons and ex-cons should have no access to firearms. Which can be accomplished without destroying the 2nd Amendment.

3. Magical powers? Not exactly. Simply>> I Have This Inanimate Object Which Solves Problems.
I do find it interesting that they are withholding the manner by which these particular victims were killed.

If it were a shooting, would they do that?

4. I do agree that it can solve problems.
They are designed to. And like all tools, it depends on the user for what problems.

Withholding? I would guess because it's still an unsolved case. They're not sure if the killer or killers are among the dead. Maybe the were killed in certain way and they don't want it leaked to the press. If it's drug related, this might spiral into something bigger.

5. Actually, quite possibly not.
As an early account mentions neighbors having noticed or heard nothing amiss. That much gunfire would not have happened if there had been a number of gunshots in the close proximity of neighbors that is a trailer park. My guess is sharp or blunt object(s), middle of the night and family member.

8. Or a silencer on gun. Even in middle of night it would be
hard to kill that many people with sharp or blunt object(s) if many were adults. The screaming would wake others. Unless they were given some knock out drug...

6. I don't think it is right to withhold so much information
The community has a right to know the basic gist of what happened.

We had a murder in our town that was cloaked with secrecy too. The details were withheld to help them catch the killer, they said. Of course it was September in a college town and I think the details (really the most basic of information) were withheld to quell the potential panic.

That was nearly 20 years ago. They never caught the killer and, when asked to finally release the information about the crime, they say the investigation is still active.

7. I live in a college town too and we have experienced the same thing.
There have been several murders involving the campus or a student in the time I've been here and they always lock it down tight when that happens. I've always considered it to be sketchy behavior.
