Bank Bailouts Turning a Profit for the Federal Government

Bank Bailout Turning Out to Be A Good Investment for the US
Published: Monday, 31 Aug 2009 | 10:35 AM ET Text Size By: Zachery Kouwe
The New York Times

Nearly a year after the federal rescue of the nation’s biggest banks, taxpayers have begun seeing profits from the hundreds of billions of dollars in aid that many critics thought might never be seen again.

The profits, collected from eight of the biggest banks that have fully repaid their obligations to the government, come to about $4 billion, or the equivalent of about 15 percent annually, according to calculations compiled for The New York Times.

These early returns are by no means a full accounting of the huge financial rescue undertaken by the federal government last year to stabilize teetering banks and other companies.

2. Good to See ...
Progress is being slowly but steadily.

Bush created a HUGE mess. But the Obama agenda appears to be working.

5. The "Let It Fail" doomer/nihilist crowd's heads are exploding, sadly.
Edited on Mon Aug-31-09 11:41 AM by HamdenRice
This news has been posted a few times, but the "let it failers" seem unable to wrap their minds around it.

For them, it's a tragedy that we're not in Great Depression II, and a tragedy that the "useless feeders" have not been starved to death, and that the Trotskyites have not seized power.

I was just reading on another forum (you know, the "other" one) that one of them wishes he could express his revolutionary fervor with "lead."

Sadly for them, complete economic collapse is not to be, and more sadly for them and happily for us, nobody listened to the let it fail madness, of course, and now their heads are exploding because TARP actually worked.

6. Btw, some of us read the terms of the TARP preferred and predicted this...
ie that it could very well make money for the Treasury, and for that we were called shills for Goldman Sachs.

9. Sub Prime Loans Generate HUGE Profits for Banks....
Quite a few of the Sub-Prime loans had high interest rates AND paid back.

Oh, quite a few defaulted, but they don't count. Right?
