Media cannibalism of rescued "victims"
Edited on Mon Aug-31-09 11:48 AM by SoCalDem
I may be unusual here, but it's TOTALLY "enough" for me, to just find out that someone has been "found", and that they are back with their families.

I don't need to, or want to know all the "juicy details".

The additional trauma that the recovered Jaycee Dugard is having added to her life now, is probably doing as much harm as the abduction.

Media pounces on these freaky stories, as if the public NEEDS to know this stuff to prevent it from happening to THEIR child..to foster a national fear that every child has "someone" lurking in the background..just waiting to do them harm.

As horrible as these odd cases are, there are millions of children who are in a lot more danger, within the "loving bosom" of their own little nuclear family, than from the weird predator/freaky guy & his loony wife.

This woman had her childhood stolen, and was forced to bear two children to her rapist, while also living with him, and now the press has essentially "stolen" her future as well..

sad...just sad..

1. Tabloid TV
Utterly repellant, like the viewers who wallow in it.

2. Agreed
Money. That is what drives that kind of reporting. It is exactly the same kind of crap that gets a paparazzi 10k for a picture of Britney Spears picking her nose.

3. They beat the stories to death, reveling in every possible aspect, real or imagined,
exploiting them until absolutely no one in the world, even the pathelogically nosey, ever would want to hear another word on the subject.

They squeeze these stories dry.

The fact the people involved are stripped of all dignity has no meaning whatsoever to them, never enters their consideration.

It doesn't look as if they ever intend to modify their behavior, either. Their feeding frenzy only seems to intensify as they simply find new angles to use to draw out the story so it outlasts any civilized normal interest from the public.

It's too ugly to watch.

4. I know it's "news", but something akin to witness protection
would be nice for these people... it would give them a chance to heal and start over without everyone "knowing" their business..

I especially feel for those kids of hers:(

5. i can't believe that even Don Lemon was saying absolutely unsensitive things like.......

...questioning why she didn't escape, etc.

"media cannibalism" is a good choice of words here.
