Just Chewed PacLab a new A-Hole

My wife had some blood work done about 6 weeks ago well 3 weeks ago we got a bill from them after insurance had paid their share stating we must pay it within 24 hours and I said 24 hours from when to myself..well two weeks ago and again last week and again today got the same notice stating 24 hours..

Well I just called them and told them their billing tactics were harassing and asked them if this was standard procedure they said yes I then asked them if they knew the cost to create and send a bill...the agent guessed about $3.00 I said then you have spent $12.00 because there is probably another in the mail so in 4 more weeks you will have spent as much in billing as the balance on the bill so why don't you just write this off now and save a stamp and ink....

Then I said this is one of the reason health care is sky high and corps like yours are abusing insurance companies and mostly the patients.....will be filing a complaint with the states AG office tomorrow..

How much are they padding the bottom line to do this...

1. Everything regarding hospitilization and all that is about
Extravagant billing.

I had an acquaintance for a while who made her living hiring herself out to families who had been hospitalized and thought their bills were too high.

Among other things on one bill, she discovered the family had paid for THREE circumcisions for their newborn son.

2. Why would it cost three dollars to produce a bill? That makes no sense. n/t

3. ? That makes perfect sense
Someone has to review and approve it - that takes maybe 5 minutes, but if they're being paid $30/hr that's $2.50
Stamp is 42 cents
Paper and printing cost a few cents, there's your $3.

Why do you find this so unlikely? Administration does cost some money - whatever line of business you're in, it's going to eat 5-10% of your revenue.

I'm not siding with the clinic in this case - I don't think demanding payment within 24 hours is reasonable, but on the other hand the OP should just pay the bill even though it's small (indeed, because it's small). 30 days would have been a more appropriate payment period, though.

4. I highly doubt that anyone approving it made $30/hour.
My mom does the same sort of work. It pays a bit more than minimum wage, but not much. Furthermore, I doubt that repeated issuance of the same bill would incur the same expenses as the first issuance. This figure you've cited is not credible.
