Chanel, world’s oldest dog, dies at age 21
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32630583/ns/today-today_pets_and_animals/

Chanel, the wirehaired dachshund who held the Guinness World Record for oldest dog, died Aug. 28, PEOPLE Pets has learned. The pooch celebrated her 21st birthday on May 6 — that's 147 in dog years, according to the Guinness Web site.

Earlier this year, the dog's owners, Karl and Denice Shaughnessy of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., said that the canine, who wore sunglasses for cataracts but was otherwise in good health, still had plenty of pep.

"While I go to work she sleeps all day until I come home and then when I get home she is like a ball of fire,” Denice told U.K.'s Telegraph.

4. My mom lost her little old lady two weeks ago at 23.
I had no idea they lived that long. My senior was 17 when she was finally put down and we thought that was extraordinary.

13. And???
Dog are just better than cats. They don't jump on counters or sleep on baby's faces or make the house smell like, well, it has a cat in it.

(Hope that doesn't get me bounced off the board. LOL)

20. Were they all strictly housecats?
That definitely extends their lifespan.

2. Not in the Guiness Book but,,
I was born on 090556. Received a puppy from my Godfather for Xmas that same year. My folks named the puppy Sandy. A mutt, that was brown and had a white stripe down the center of his forehead.
He was an outside dog, ALL the time. I can recall going out in freezing weather to pour hot water on his iced over water bowl, and throw extra old blankets into his dog house along with the straw that was already there.
When he got older and we had built a garage, my dad, much to mom's dismay, cut a dog sized square hole into a corder of the garage. He pulled the dog house into the garage, stapled insulation below it, and placed it on top of an old door. Then put straw and blankets inside once more.
Sandy began to act a little strange during the summer of 1977, raising his hackles and growling for no reason, growling at me until I got close enough to him that he could smell me, then the tail would start wagging.
Sometime in late September, I went out to feed him, and his rope had been chewed in half - he was gone - never came back. All I have are memories and 1 photo.

6. Pfft. I had a dachsy that lived 21 years
Maybe more. We all honestly lost track. We got her at the age of 5 just after I turned ten in July 1984 and she was still alive during my daughter's third Christmas in 2000. She lived beyond that, but I never saw her again. What the eff is it with dachshunds?

12. RIP

That's a cute story. I have a 12-year old tabby cat (as well as a 7-YO and a 5-YO) and are hoping they all live very nice, long lives. Good for Chanel and her loving owners.
