Copy of a friend's lawyer's e-mail to her.
I cannot disclose more.

but I love what was imprinted at the bottom of the lawyer's e-mail.

"No more turning away from the weak and the weary . . . Just a world that we all must share.
It's not enough just to stand and stare. Is it only a dream that there'll be no more turning away?"
Pink Floyd.

Just goes to prove not all lawyers have sold their souls, I would think.

13. the lawyers who handled my car wreck injury suit had Kerry signs up in their office
and offered the signs free to anyone who wanted one.

The whole office (and they are the largets injury attys in the area) or at least the senior members, work a lot with the local democratic party.

24. I had a debilitating injury that inhibited my ablity to work for a long time, due
to a driver completely ignoring a redlight and tboning my car. I had to be put on a back board and neck brace. Witnesses filed reports that the driver, extremely elderly, never even tapped the brakes and hit me at more than 45 mph..

If you want to belittle what I went through, go ahead, but the firm helped me to get my surgeries and physical therapy paid for, so I count them in the good column.

17. Isn't that why neo-cons are always trying for "tort reform?"
...while trashing trial lawyers? I used to think Repubs hated lawyers but then I realized: it's only "trial lawyers," not corporate lawyers. Corporate lawyers are their friends!

25. Yes, and as if the insurance companies and corporations
don't have "trial lawyers" to defend cases brought against them!

They always want penalties for "frivolous suits" but no mention of "frivolous defenses." Big comapanies know it takes years to get to trial so they wait to pay off valid claims. Yet never is there any mention of this "frivolity."

28. Political leanings can depend a lot on the type of lawyer
Edited on Mon Aug-31-09 08:10 PM by Venceremos
I worked as a paralegal until 2005. Most of the criminal prosecutors I knew were conservative, even the Democrats. I only met one very liberal assistant prosecutor, but he only lasted a couple years before switching to defense. Most of the criminal defense lawyers I knew were liberal. Civil lawyers were mixed depending on if they mainly prosecuted or defended civil suits (those that mostly defended lawsuits tended to be more conservative).

I also saw a lot of social conservatism, even among lawyers who considered themselves liberal. For instance I knew many with archaic personal beliefs such as "gay men just haven't found the right woman yet" and other such nonsense. It was odd because these same lawyers had no qualms about backing socially liberal politicians.

16. I think lawyer jokes were started by industrialists in the 70s and 80s, before email and FOX News.
You never hear any insurance adjuster jokes, or Wall St. Broker jokes. Are these professions not worthy of the same kind of potshots that lawyers take?

19. Whoa, unfortunately lawyer jokes, and worse started before,
yes BEFORE ... Shakespeare.
Which was a long time ago.
My own perception is that it is close to 50/50, very close, lawyers are 50/50 dems/reps.
I think the other important thing is, there are many independents (every hear of those) that go to which ever candidate, at whatever level they think is most fit for the office.
Or maybe they go with whichever way the wind blows, I don't know.
