Hurricane Jimena approaches Category Five
http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/show.html
<snip>

Jimena is expected to make landfall Tuesday night or Wednesday morning along the Mexico's Baja Peninsula. The hurricane is in an environment with low wind shear, 5 - 10 knots, and warm Sea Surface Temperatures (SSTs), 30°C. Shear is expected to remain low, and SSTs will decline to 28°C with a corresponding decree in total oceanic heat content between now and landfall, and these conditions should mean that Jimena will be a Category 3 or 4 hurricane at landfall. The computer models have come into better agreement with their latest 12Z runs, giving confidence that a landfall north of Cabo San Lucas will occur, and that town is now outside of the NHC cone of uncertainty. Cabo San Lucas has a 13% chance of receiving hurricane force winds, according to NHC's wind probability product. Serious flooding due to heavy rains will occur across all of the southern Baja Tuesday and Wednesday.

After Jimena makes initial landfall on Baja, it will cross over the Gulf of California and make landfall on Mainland Mexico. Depending upon how up along the coast this second landfall occurs, Arizona may receive moisture from Jimena late this week that will be capable of causing flooding rains.

1. We really need rain in AZ... we just don't need it all at once.
I'm keeping an eye on this storm. Thanks for any updates.

4. Weather Underground lists it as a CAT 5 now.
With it expected to make landfall as a CAT 4 around Tuesday at 2AM.

I would be getting out of the way, if I were in it's path.

11. Thats on track for Las Vegas.
A hurricane in Las Vegas. I used to live there. Once we had a lot of rain from a storm like this. It caused a bunch of grass to grow in the deserts, then the next winter it all dried up and caught fire. Las Vegas is a valley surrounded by mountains so all that smoke just stayed over us for months.

6. Every time I update the projected path
It bends a little more my way (south east AZ). I think we will get something from this, I just hope it's not all at once.

BTW, it's expected to cross Baja and enter into the Gulf of California before making a second landfall near Puerto Penasco.

The waters of the Gulf of California are currently around 33 C, that's about 91 degrees F. Even if it only spends the better part of one day over the Gulf, it will regain some strength.

Hurricane just west of Tucson? Could happen.

8. Our rig is gonna catch the ass end of this as it exits Baja
to head toward the mainland. We have a 5th wheel permanently stationed at Bahia de los Angeles, Baja Norte. It should only be a TS by the time it hits our rig, but I still expect lots of flooding and wind damage.

Have friends with similar set ups in Todos Santos and Bahia Asuncion (Pacific side) - they are truly fucked! So spare them some good vibes please.
