Cognitive dissonance revisited: (did we ever leave it?)
For eight years, reasonable thinking people endured the constant tension caused by seeing, hearing and KNOWING the truth while being TOLD, 24/7, by the MSM that something else was in fact the truth. The strain was sometimes unbearable and accounted for countless rants here on DU and innumerable broken TV screens across the fruited plain. Here are just a few "items" that fit into this category:

Bush won the 2000 election ("Get over it!" my ass!)

"No one could have foreseen hijackers using planes as weapons".

Bin Laden in league with Saddam Hussein.

Weapons of mass destruction: chemical, biological, "nucular".

Iraq has unmanned planes that can strike our east coast.

Nigerian "yellow cake".

"We'll be greeted as liberators; with candy and flowers and singing in the streets."

"Iraq's oil wealth means they will pay us for the war that liberates them".

"We KNOW where the WMD are".

Mobile laboratories.

I could go on, but let me wrap this up with the most jarring example: "President Bush is a wise and competent leader in this time of national crisis". (Even now, I don't know whether to gag or giggle when I hear or read that!)

But, that was then, right? The Democrats occupy the White House and have clear majorities in both houses of Congress. We're gonna straighten this shit out, right?

Not so fast.

Death panels.
Death books.
"Pulling the plug on grandma".
Defunding Medicare.
Long waiting lists for medical care.
Older or handicapped people people denied care because "not socially useful".
Bureaucrats coming between doctor and patient.
Tax money to fund free abortions.
Free health care for illegal immigrants.
Private insurance companies will be bankrupted.

If I have to listen to one more smarmy Republican or Blue Dog SOB mouth this BS AGAIN on the evening news, the TV screen that just barely survived the Bush years may be history! They aren't "mistaken". They don't just "have a different viewpoint". They are greedy lying rat-bastards who damn well know better and we shouldn't have to listen repectfully while they spew on national TV without challenge, for the most part, from the "journalists" who inhabit the box.

"Up side their heads, smack them we should!"

1. Enough to drive a reasonable and informed person insane
Might even be enough to get them to find a less dysfunctional country to live in....
