Unfunded Mandates...How do people here feel about them?
If we are Mandated to buy Health Care Insurance, could that be called an "Unfunded Mandate"? This was one issue I always sided with the Republicans over. I do not believe in "Unfunded Mandates", but that is just my opinion...

1. No way is a mandate that people must care insurance an 'unfunded mandate' in the classical sense.

Do you drive down public streets without auto insurance, forcing everybody else to carry 'uninsured motorists'? I only agree with the Republican crazies on 'why should I have to pay for your insurance' in the cases of those who refuse to carry insurance on 'principle'.

However, I believe if you can escrow something like $1 million per person in your family to cover any future medical needs you or they may have, then you shouldn't be 'mandated' to buy insurance.

6. I used to agree with this

until I realized, I won't be paying for somebody else's, I'll only be paying mine and probably at a lower price with everyone in, increasing the pool...

8. Uh? If you elect not to have insurance, what will you be paying for?

2. Partially funded. The subsidizations will pay down the profits & overhead
So all you pay for is the actual service (if you are in the "exchange")

So now, the other issue...why is tax payer money going to be distributed as dividends to the great descendants of slave owners and sweat shop managers, who now own health insurance stock?

Kennedy called this: "a partnership between the administration and the private health insurance industry. For the private industry, the administration plan offers a windfall of billions of dollars annually. The windfall is not entirely a surplus, since elements of Administration's proposal appear to have originated in the insurance industry itself"

3. There are two sides to mandates and I think your question highlights
it. An unfunded mandate from the feds telling states they must care for developmentally disabled persons by doing certain things is one thing. And it is needed.

But went they tell the individual to do something without funding the issue then they are not helping they are hurting. As my daughter said her boss will close the coffee shop if forced to provide health care. The shop is barely making it now. I am assuming that the plan they are talking about would be helping small business owners like this one. I hope.

On the other hand if we go after the big companies it is only China that will benefit. They are still outsourcing and that would probably add to their reasons for leaving.

5. So you approve of unfunded mandates?
Like the Republicans passed in the last 8 years...i.e. No Child Left Behind, Schedule B & D Medicare on and on...the Republicans are the ones that pass all kinds of stuff and then don't fund them...and you approve of this?
