Pelosi: Health bill will come to the floor soon, and it will pass
By Michael O'Brien - 09/02/09 05:03 PM ET

snip//

"We go into session next week, and we'll immediately begin bringing our bills together, and bringing them to the floor of the House," she said.

While each of the three House committees handling health reform legislation have approved marked up bills to the floor, no single preliminary bill has been approved yet by the House.

Pelosi reiterated that the bill would contain a public (or "government-run") option, too.

"We can't pass a bill without a public option, unless someone comes up with a better idea, which we haven't heard yet," she said.

The speaker also projected optimism about Democrats' fortunes in the heatlhcare debate more broadly.

"We're in the game, she said. "We're ready to go."

"Do not be distracted by one thing and another; it will happen, it will be great, and it will be soon," Pelosi added.

5. I sniff a cop-out
"We can't pass a bill without a public option, unless someone comes up with a better idea, which we haven't heard yet," she said.

Well, WHO will decide what a better idea will be?

Sounds like she is sidestepping in the way of "it will be in the SPIRIT of a public option".

It makes me very uneasy to see her say this.

6. You are over-reading, kind of how the wingnuts did when they came up with "death panels"
They took innocent language and came up with the most sinister interpretation.

I just take it at face value. She is talking about the Republicans, they have not come up with ANY ideas.

7. Hardly. And comparing me to a wingnut is deplorable.
Excuse me for not giving ANY of them the benefit of the doubt. They haven't earned it.
ANYTIME an unwavering politician starts to use a word like UNLESS...then you better watch out.
You are getting ready to get sold down the river.

up with the most negative and worst possible interpretation that came to me. Because I have been thinking a lot about that. I have been dealing with that type of person on another board, anything innocent thing you say is immediately interpreted as being "sinister" and "evil."

As far as Pelosi goes, I am pretty sure she was being snarky about Republicans.

Remember that they promised a plan?

They were going to present their own healthcare bill. Boehner said any day now?

That was a month or two ago, they never came up with anything.

8. If the Senate Bill doesn't correspond and they can't work it out it won't really matter
I think we have always known a decent bill will pass the House. that is not where the problem is. The Senate is where this bill will die unless something major develops.
