Sawyer to take over as anchor of ABC evening news

By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

(09-02) 19:27 PDT New York (AP) --

Women will anchor two of the three major network evening newscasts — the premier jobs in the TV news business — as Diane Sawyer replaces Charles Gibson, who is retiring from ABC at the end of the year.

Until Katie Couric became "CBS Evening News" anchor in September 2006, no woman had held the job done by broadcast legends like Walter Cronkite, Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw, Chet Huntley, David Brinkley and Dan Rather alone. Barbara Walters, Connie Chung and Elizabeth Vargas have done it only when teamed with men.

Sawyer's hiring is a "watershed moment," said the Women's Media Center.

7. And an old Nixon lover,
don't forget.

Diane was faithful to the fucker in ways still unexplained, so this job is just perfect for her.

Does anyone watch these news shows?

8. I actually was going to mention something about her ol' pal Tricky Dick
but didn't. Too lazy I guess... And apparently, millions of people still watch network news. Just noticed that Orrex noted below what a horrible interviewer she is; I still have a tape of her interview with the Dixie Chicks...it was so pathetic, that although I kept taping, I stopped watching part of the way through it. I don't think I've ever watched the whole thing to this day. And yeah, I agree, she is a perfect fit for ABC; Fox's slightly more calm and restrained cousin.

6. That's nice, but Sawyer is possibly the worst interviewer I've ever heard
Has she asked a single hard-hitting question in the past 35 years?

Instead of doing actual journalism, she lobs idiotic softballs like "Mr. President, did you authorize torture?"

What kind of answer is she looking for with a stupid question like that?

12. Except, you don't interview on the nightly news
You just introduce the segments.

I think that this is what happened with Curic. Interviewing was supposed to have been her strong suit - if one likes a 50 something women trying to be pixie... And she was hoping to have some "segments" of interviews but I think that she just introduce segments like the rest of them... have never watched any of her shows.

Still, nice to see that women can shed their burkas on network news.

15. It's just that I haven't seen her do anything bold or insightful in the last 15 years on-air
I know she doesn't need to interview anyone while in the anchor chair, but I'm still skeptical.
