Cash for Clunkers
I don't really have a strong opinion of Cash for Clunkers ( CfC) program. Looked like a good way to get some older gas hogs off the rode.

I didn't really like the idea that the engines had to be destroyed. But I understand the reasoning behind that.

Anyway I was speaking to a worker at a GMC dealer and he said they sold over 100 cars through the program.

But the dealer hadn't seen any of the money yet. So this dealer was waiting to destroy any of the 'clunkers'. If the government fails to pay off then the dealer was planning to get what ever he could out of the clunkers by fixing them up and selling them.

The program requires the dealer put a special destructive fluid in the engine and then run it until the engine seizes up.

1. ...and your point?

I know your trying REAL hard to find a reason to whine about this (big surprise around here...NOT) but....

Ever heard of recycling? So why the problem with seizing up a perfectly good old gas guzzling engine you ask?

You think the Gov't check, when it does inevitably come, will bounce?

3. It's funny that I heard this same talking point earlier today out in my community
The program was a WILD success. It's only been over a week.
Those cars have been sitting on dealers lots for months--and they want to quibble about a small delay in funding?
Rubbish.
The RW wants everyone to believe that the program was a failure at the same time they are filling their pockets up with the commissions they made on the program.

4. I think the program was a "success" and I personally took advantage of it.
The point the dealers are making is a valid one. The LAW enacting the C4C as well as the regulations mandated that the dealers be paid within 10 days of verification of each C4C deal. That is not happening. Thus, the government made a promise it has not been able to keep.

Let's say that the public option health insurance plan has a provision that if you are denied some treatment and if you appeal that decision the agency has ten days by LAW to review the situation and give a final answer that they actually can keep that promise. That is the way this is being looked at by the RW.

5. It was a success!
I think the program was a success for people who needed a car that didn't guzzle that much gas. Hey, look how many times these big corporations and banks took our money. They'll eventually get their money.
