Glenn Beck claims NBC HQ is full of communist art - apparently...
Edited on Thu Sep-03-09 12:52 AM by Adenoid_Hynkel
he's never heard this fairly well-known story (no surprise-he's an idiot):

The Rockefellers wanted to have a mural put on the ground-floor wall of Rockefeller Center. Nelson Rockefeller wanted Henri Matisse or Pablo Picasso to do it because he favored their modern style, but neither was available. Diego Rivera was one of Nelson Rockefeller's mother's favorite artists and therefore was commissioned to create the huge mural. He was given a theme: "Man at the Crossroads Looking with Hope and High Vision to the

Choosing of a New and Better Future."<1> Rockefeller wanted the painting to make people pause and think.<2>
The huge mural had many parts including: society women drinking alcohol, pictures of cells (sexually transmitted diseases), Leon Trotsky and finally the famous Lenin portion (depicting communism) which upset Rockefeller.<2> The patron asked Rivera to change the face of Lenin to that of an unknown laborer's face as was originally intended but the painter left it as it was. The work was paid for on May 22, 1933, and immediately draped. People protested but it remained covered until the early weeks of 1934, when it was smashed by workers and hauled away in wheelbarrows. Rivera responded by saying that it was "cultural vandalism."

An assistant, Lucienne Bloch, had taken photographs of the mural before it was destroyed. Using them as a reference, Rivera repainted the mural, though at a smaller scale, at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City where it can be found today, renamed as Man, Controller of the Universe.<2> At Rockefeller Center in its place is a mural with Abraham Lincoln as its focal point.
The Rockefeller-Rivera dispute is covered in the films Cradle Will Rock and Frida.

Beck, of course presented a photo of the painting in his clip and acted like it was still in the NBC building.
Fair and Balanced, as always.

1. rofl, saw that, it was like Beck's like Hitler for Dummies
the naming of individuals
the hinting at a dangerous broadly connected two-or-three century conspiracy
his 4th grade effort at reading art and connecting the various pieces (depicting swords and plowshares) "where NBC is" with communism

only one problem for glenn, the swords-into-plowshares has it's origins in a biblical quote: (isiah2-4)"And He will judge between the nations, And will render decisions for many peoples; And they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And never again will they learn war."

maybe he needs to find out about the little events that led to the development of the UN

and yes, glenn, perhaps Jesus was the biggest, most dangerous peace-mongering progressive of all! ROFL (and glenn, you'd have reacted to his message then the way you do now)

3. You know Beck has been being so funny lately he needs a little cheering up.
I can't take credit for finding this vid, but for a little humor, I figure playing it for Glenn Beck really makes me laugh. And it is probably not good form, but it is funny.

12. Glenn does add alot of sadness. and some humor. So to post some music for the sadness .
Sadness we all have felt at one time or another, without just the humor, but with a big hug and all the love I can muster, these are thoughts I think of.

I think I was where he was once, And when I think back at times like that for me, although with different issues, I have to believe their is a way for anyone to open there heart to share with all kinds of people, even those they don't know. Especially if they are in suffering or sadness.

There is a girl that sings some really good songs I found awhile ago, they help me think on some of what seems to be some experiences with thinking about other people, to love those that it is so easy to judge.

Maybe anyone might find some of the same lessons I found in these simple songs, maybe not, but love means trying, or at least how I like to think of love. And I really like her songs.

 :loveya:

When I heard this song it made me think of how I treated some people sometimes, and how they might react when I was less then I should be. I still think about it when thinking of people that could use a little help in life, so I figured I would post it also.

13. I usually don't comment on what I think songs mean.
Edited on Thu Sep-03-09 03:55 PM by RandomThoughts
But I should on the song Kamikaze Love, since some people might think of it in a bad way, first off nobody is a mistake. How I thought of that comment was in a different way when I first heard it, a different meaning that meant something to me. Just to keep the negativity out of how I view the song. But the song does give things to think about, even though not the same for every person. Just like it meant something else to the writer and singer.

7. Author E. B. White (Charlotte's Web & Stuart Little) wrote a poem about the mural
I Paint What I See

by E.B. White

It's no good taste in a man like me,
Said John D's grandson, Nelson.
To question an artist's integrity
Or mention a practical thing like a fee,
But I know what I like to a large degree,
Tho art I hate to hamper,
For twenty-one thousand conservative bucks
You painted a radical. I say, shucks,
I never could rent the offices--
The capitalist offices.
For this, as you know, is a public hall
And people want doves, or a tree in fall,
And tho your art I dislike to hamper,
I owe a little to God and Gramper,

And after all,
It's my wall.....
We'll see if it is, said Rivera.

8. Glenn Beck would be screaming that Mexico is a communist country if he saw
all of the Diego Rivera artwork commissioned by the Mexican government on display in the National Palace in Mexico City.

10. Stupid Is What Stupid Does...
This is an indication of the shortcolmings of our educational system. So many are ignorant of history and perspective and are easily fed this kind of crap and will believe it. This country has been so dumbed down by a corporate media that doesn't care to inform or be "fair and balanced" but to exploit and distort.

18. It is obvious Beck hates art.. among other things.
He knows nothing about art history, or iconography,
but out of his fear, he's an iconoclast,
and that happens every time in history when
fascism raises its ugly head.

More tragically, Beck's uneducated audience
swallows this tripe whole.

What have we become...???
