Is the pendulum finally starting to swing to the left?
All I ever remember as I was growing up is things getting more and more conservative - from the waning days of Nixon, to Reagan, and Bush I.

Over the last year or so, I've had several (older than me) friends and acquaintances comment that America is starting to drift toward the left after 40 years of being on a rightward trend.

What do you all think? Was the last election a sign of this? Was the firing of Imus a sign? Are there other indications you see?

1. Do you mean regular people...
or the ones who own the media? And the vote counting companies? And the military contractors? Et al?

Bill

4. The momentum of people's opinions....

A recent poll showed that over 50% of Americans now self-identify as Democrats vs ~35% as Republican.

This doesn't bring immediate change to our institutions, but you have to have the people wanting something different before the instutions DO change.

2. No, not by a long shot

We're still involved in a war that has no end in sight.

Congress/Senate members are still afraid to speak loudly and clearly regarding civil rights for all.

Bush is still in office.

The e-voting machines are still without a paper trail.

Imus was just a pawn, and the hate talk radio machine remains intact.

5. But look at opinion.....

If things are starting to change, that doesn't mean all the problems are going to be taken care of at once. It does take time. I guess I'm starting to feel a little more hopeful that changes will be possible. I didn't feel that way 10 years ago.

3. Start asking people if they voted for Bush
I can't find anyone who admits voting for him.

6. I think more to the center than anything.
I guess that technically is left...but it's think it's going to center-right for awhile.

7. I'll only believe it when they remove the RW hate brigade from the airwaves
Rush, Boortz, Savage, O'Lielly, Hannity et al.

We've been mislead by polls before. But until the chorus of hate is gone, and the large corporations control the airwaves, we cannot let our guards down. I live in RW country, and they haven't stopped with their *masters of the universe* attitude.

8. It started swinging back years ago.
That's why the Bush Crime Family had to steal two elections for its idiot son.

9. Media sweetie Michael Wiener said this two years ago
on his radio show. I almost drove off the road when I heard it.
(paraphrasing) "My friends, I know which way the wind is blowing and it's blowing to the left."
I dont remember the context - might have been about global warming or abortion.

10. So was that a warning, or does the Weiner intend to be reborn
as a new leftist?

11. Fat chance of that.
More likely he's looking in to the cost of property in Paraguay.
