Well, well. Mika on sexism in the media: it's the viewers fault, too!
Methinks Mika has heard from LOTS of MJ viewers who cannot stand the way she whines, whimpers and sits like a bobblehead while Scab goes off on one of his tangents. I think yesterday probably brought the most criticism down on her head. Joe stepped all over her and laughed and sang while she tried to do her portion of the show.

Today, she blamed the viewers for sexism in the media during a segment on the Diane Sawyer promotion to take Gibson's anchor slot.

However, one good thing, I noticed that she and Tina Brown conspired to cut Joe off when he started mocking the DNC commercial on Dick Cheney. Mika ignored him and did the intro to the next section and then Tina took over (different subject). He tried to keep it up,motormouthing about the Dems, and the women just ignored him and kept going. I was cheering her until she started blaming the viewers for perpetuating sexism in the media. She's probably right to some extent but it was obvious to me she was talking VERY personally.

1. Sometimes do we misunderstand? Just asking. Could it be that
Mika was speaking in the broadest of terms. If we think about
it there are vestiges of the old thinking about women and their
place.

This is not meant beat up on christians. I am one--Catholic.

It has been a very few years since the Southern Baptists initiated
their program officially making the husband the "head of the home"
and wives subservient. How could this happen if in the general
society there are not vestiges of sexism. I think story got
maybe 24 hrs of brief coverage if that.

When it time to select candidates, one of the first considerations
Toughness. Must have an image of being strong. --favors men.

When a woman does get the nod for a position, you can pick up
"cattiness" even in the Media.

In Mika's defense, I do believe she was thinking in a broad sense
of American culture. The viewers make up the culture.

2. i think the sexism is hitting us on both sides. the submissive and women willing embrace
though i think this is more of the past.

and the objectification. this is the one we embrace and go with today.

both empowering the male, and females say .... ok.

3. Yes, I agree with her point, also. However, given her behavior just yesterday
and given the fact that she talks about all the hate mail she gets, I thought her remark to be heavily personal. What I wonder about is how she feels SHE contributes to the general sexism in the media? Has she examined her own role in perpetuating the "brainless" woman crap? When she acts that role she should take some responsibility for that perpetuation.

Well, I was glad to see that at least she had some spine today against Scab and did not resort to her role of a lecturing "mommy"...

4. Joe's gotten to be such a tool for the RNC that it has recently become
very easy not to watch. Its like watching Fox - you feel like your peeking in on an alternate universe.

Remember that commercail for Morning Joe where he says "The Republican Party doesn't own me ..". At one point there was a little bit of truth to that, but it is not longer true AT ALL anymore.

5. Mika likes to imagine that the antipathy for her is gender based.
Mika cannot accept that she is simply a lousy journalist. Her attempts to make criticisms of her related to her gender are her way of trying to blame something other than her own idiocy and lack of professionalism for the worthy criticism of her weak ass TV skills.

6. At some point, Mika needs to make a decision: stay with the status quo or
be your own woman and leave the show if necessary.

The more she puts up with her "role" on the show where she vacillates between mindless robotic blonde and hectoring mommy, the more criticism will come down on top of her. She needs to make up her mind what she's gonna do...

8. Well if she doesn't want gender based criticism, maybe she ought to stop

with the simulated orgasmic noises on the air. Besides, it really embarrases Willie. And kills any thoughts of her being a respected professional journalist.

7. What should she expect from a sociopathic asshole and possible killer?
Scab-borrow is a fascists dream. I'm still waiting for someone to actually do an in-depth investigative piece regarding the mysterious death of one of his female office workers/interns and his seemingly coincident hasty retreat from Congress.
