... to protect the innocent -- if there are any such creatures over the age of 14 in that sprawling, brawling extended family.

Honest, I keep TRYING to look away, but it's like trying to look away from a train wreck -- or trying to put down that trashy novel your neighbor loaned you. You KNOW it's going to leave images in your brain that no bleach can remove, but the fascination is too much.

2. Why change names, innocent or not? . . .
As Vonnegut observed, it's unnecessary, since God (in his infinite wisdom) protects the innocent as a matter of heavenly routine.

It's perfect.

she knew Jesus would lead her to a place outside of herself, her own personal Rapture, but she was brought back by the rutting sounds of her husband and she knew the act was mercifully over.

Exhausted from the minutia of the day’s events, but still awake with the sounds of her adoring fans in her head, Sarah toweled off from the shower and made her way into the bedroom. The house was finally empty; the kids at her parents and Todd; well, Todd, she knew, was far away – off fishing he told her. Her suspicions about Todd and Jim, Todd’s long-time friend and fishing partner, had by now totally consumed her thoughts. She tried to ignore it, but the thoughts of what Todd may be doing right now, at this moment had both enraged and excited her.
Just then, she heard the unmistakable sound of Levi’s old F-150 in the driveway.
