GA: my backwards-ass-state & the repukes who run it
Below is a a clip from an article from this afternoon's email blast from the ATL Business Chronicl, but first a little RT rant time:

May I just say: what the fuck is wrong with god-damned business-luvin'-to-the-absolute-detriment-of-its-ill-informed-electorate (excepting us few Democrats!)-republican-party in this god-damned state?!?

Why is it a given that those fuck-sticks will constantly champion the businesses when none of those small-penised-gun-totin'-abortion-hatin-but-death-penalty-lovin'-asswipes couldn't give one rat's ass about the 10 homeless guys/gals that I drive past every fucking day sleeping underneath 75/85 in Downtown Atlanta?

What about all the kids in our state with the poorly-underfunded school system and the significantly underpaid teachers who bust their asses every day because they love their job and care about their students - care enough to spend $ from their own pockets keeping the classroom stocked with essentials?

Just fucking crickets chirping from those repukes... BUT, we can have a fucking state-wide referendum (which is absolutely unheard of in this state - and the southeast to my knowledge) to keep the guvmint and its directives (whatever form they may take) out of the big business's pocket books in this state - fucking republican "values" at work.

Chip Rogers - I don't know how you can sleep at night, but I presume your bed is lined with $$$$$$$$$$$ from your corporate masters. Fuck you.

Ga. GOP takes aim at health care reformAtlanta Business Chronicle - by Dave Williams Staff Writer

A group of Georgia Senate Republicans unveiled a proposal Thursday that would let Georgians essentially opt out of federal health care reform.

The GOP senators said they plan to introduce a constitutional amendment during this winter’s General Assembly session giving Georgians the right to choose whether they want to enroll in any health insurance plan and prohibiting governments from punishing those who decide not to participate.

...
The constitutional change, which would be subject to a statewide referendum in November 2010, is aimed at proposals before Congress to create a government-run health insurance option and require businesses either to offer insurance to their employees or pay a penalty.

“We’re telling Democrats in Washington, D.C., that proposals to deny or limit access to the purchase of private health care are simply unacceptable,” said Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers, R-Woodstock. “Our basic freedoms are at risk with the government-run health care proposals coming out of Washington.”

------------

PS - if you made it this far, thank you for indulging my rant - RT

1. "Our basic freedoms are at risk"
The freedom to die in horrible pain.

The freedom to be bankrupted by a preventable illness.

The freedom to be crippled for want of an annual physical.

The freedom to decide whether to eat or take your prescription.

The freedom to decide whether to pay your rent or take your prescription.

The freedom to tie up an emergency room for a routine medical matter.

I don't think I want to live in Mr. Rogers' neighborhood.

4. It's those kind of blanket statements...
but without any substantiation (of course!) that drive me fucking nuts. However, it seems to me that few people critically read news articles any more and instead simply accept as a 'given' whatever is printed.

In this case, you and the other posters below are correct - what fucking "freedoms" is "Chip" referring to?

5. Right between Williams & Baker street exits
And it pains me every day to see it driving in; and driving out at night, I see the same few guys holding up signs asking for any kind of handout. I give them a few dollars each week, but personally struggle with what, if anything, I can do to be more effective (I am probably part of the problem, but who the fuck knows)...

3. It's called nullification or interposition and was tried by the Southern states to block Civil Right
s laws - SCOTUS slapped them down.

7. Why would you need to opt out of what is already a 'public option?'

8. Seems like the only time we have referendums
in the South, it's either to race-bait or kick the poor people down.

10. Unfortunately, I think you'd be surprised (in a sad way)
Again, this morning driving in to work, local NPR news had the follow up summarizing the article from yesterday and including an audio clip from another repuke hack state-rep (I forgot the guy's name) and his statement (which I cannot remember - no coffee yet this morning!) was followed up by the NPR announcer saying that the "fact" referenced by the repuke as further justification for the "opt out" is in fact wrong as confirmed by both Politifact and Factcheck.org (both stated to be non-partisan by the announcer).

You have the inmates running the asylum here in GA.
