we were America-haters for opposing war, NOW they say government can't be trusted
Edited on Thu Sep-03-09 05:48 PM by G_j

So now the government is evil, but they were OK with the US government sending our kids off to kill and die, and they were OK with
the PATRIOT act. So are they now the America-haters? Are they now the traitors?

These folks are seriously confused.

2. they aren't going to be able to hide their prejudice behind a flag
- there are some who are advocating overthrow of this administration. THAT IS being a traitor- that IS un American.

We should speak this truth as clearly, calmly and directly as we can. Over and over until people who can hear finally listen.

6. After 9/11...
...a lot of people wanted blood for blood.

Now the government has run up the debt to unsustainable levels, and still no Bin Laden. It's interfering with the government the government's ability to move ahead with any sort of domestic agenda.

We're simply broke. China doesn't want anymore dollars, neither does Saudi Arabia. Those two were our biggest lenders.

The whole point of using dollars was that you could get something of value with them. That's changed. They want something they can use, not more paper.

We owe each of them the equivalent of 20,000 new airliners, or we're gonna have a tough time getting anymore loans.

7. They are not confused
I think they simply cannot bring themselves to trust a black man. And so they hide their bigotry/racism behind their false patriotic vitriol. See - George was one of them...a good ole boy....and Barack Obama is so foreign to them, so foreign that they simply cannot accept he is American. I shake my head in sadness. They are even suggesting that his address to students as being indoctrinating and something to be feared.....they are even afraid of the President of the United States to talk to children.....

It is racism.

8. It is not racism
They felt the same way about clinton. It is about politics and ideology.

11. Well....
Clinton never had the attacks of having to produce his birth certificate.....did he?

You have every right to say it is just politics and ideology - but I think it goes deeper than that.

15. It may for some, but most just hate liberals/dems in power. I worked around milita folks
back in the days of Clinton (sold gun reloading equipment and army surplus stuff). Of course, most of them hated republicans as well (ie, they just don't trust the govt and think they are owned by corporations and only marginally trust repubs more than dems).

Now some might ask - where were they during the bush admin? Still there and publishing the same stuff (Sierra Times style and so on) they just did not get the same press.

Which makes me wonder WHY the press pretty much ignored them during that time (to them only the actors changed - they liked bush better on some things as they felt repubs would not infringe on homeschooling, guns, etc - like I said they like repubs marginally better).

Fear is not operating at high levels with conservatives so they are gonna lash out at whom they see as the leader of the left - Obama.

Hell, if someone like Kennedy had been in there you can only imagine the hate we would be seeing.

9. And the reverse was true when bush was in power with us - Now we trust the govt and the war
We did not trust the govt back then.

We don't when they are in power, they don't when we are.

Both sides fear ulterior motives.

13. I must say, not true in my case
I still don't trust the government, but I do support it when it attends to the real needs of it's people.

16. See my reply above RE: Milita
Basically they feel similar - they don't trust government but they trust R's more than D's when it comes to homeschooling, guns, etc.

I think there is a large contingent of people in the middle who feel the same way, they are more issues voters (a few issues that is) versus party voters because they feel they are getting either bad or worse either way they go (to wit, all politicians lie, cozy up to corps, screw over people, etc).

They are the willing tools of corporate power, and logic has no place in their thought process (such as it is).

18. They didn't start with Obama.

This has been going on since before the Civil War.

They haven't trusted the government for well over a century, so of course they supported business men who shared their feelings and could provide their needs. If they can fuck the government, they're heroes, because the government is evil.

Not only did the government end slavery, they let the livestock start voting. This does not sit well with their delicate sensibilities.

20. where were the "Libertarians" when the PATRIOT act was passed?
All you heard about (from the media) was "ACLU this" and "ACLU that" ... and "ACLU stands for All Criminals Love Us" and how they're a bunch of America haters who want more rights for terrorists than the average Citizen ...

Why weren't the Libertarians all over Faux, decrying the legislation? They normally would be loved by Faux ...
