Travel Alert: San Francisco Bay Bridge closed over Labor Day

The San Francisco Bay Bridge, which links the city of San Francisco to the city of Oakland and the East Bay, will be closed beginning Thursday at 8:00 pm EST, 9-3-09, and will reopen to traffic no later than Tuesday at 5:00 AM, 9-8-09.

A 300 foot double-deck section of the span's roadway is being replaced as part of the $6.2 billion earthquake-safety project to replace the bridge's eastern span.
